It’s time address that which we’ve known for some time now — Calipari is overrated

Not vastly overrated, but overrated for certain. All he’ll ever have is 2012.

Just wait until they expand the football playoffs.
Then it’ll be “but it’s hard to win it every year in a tournament format”. It never fails.

I’m not sure of whatever dipshit point you’re trying to make, but it has no bearing whatsoever on Calipari being overrated.

They fact that you don’t understand what I’m saying says all I need to know about your basketball acumen.
Stick to football.
Stick to football.

I understood what you were saying, and it is hard. But multiple coaches have done it multiple times, some with less talent on one team than Cal has had in a single class. I kind of agree with him, just so long as the "not vastly" is appended. It's quite possible to lose a lot with superior talent, and Cal has, for the most part, avoided that. And basketball has far more parity across the tiers than football. But with the talent Cal has brought in, he should have a somewhat better resume.

Lol ok James Naismith. Corch CAL just got clowned by some scrub Seton Hall team, but by all means, defend him and talk more about tournaments — which he also sucks in.

I would agree if he hasn’t consistently made an Elite Eight or better in most of his Kentucky runs.
But I also watched Tubby peak with his NC with a decade of nothing better than an Elite Eight following. And he was a good coach himself.
I think Calipari is Calipari. Middle of the road Xs and Os guy and a great recruiter. I think the only coach better as a complete package is Coach K.

He embraced recruiting the one and done guys and made hay with that early but that strategy has not paid the dividends

He has four Final Fours at Kentucky alone with a Runner-Up and a NC.
If that sucks, I’m not sure what to tell you.

Is this “basketball acumen”?
Posted on 12/8/18 at 2:12 pm to Mojave1864
Basketball acumen is knowing that college basketball has maybe the worst format possible for choosing a national champion. Otherwise Kentucky as a program wouldn’t be second (with 8) in the country with NC historically with the talent they’ve had not just under Cal but under other UK coaches.
But like I said, y’all will get the fun of finding that out soon enough when the CFP folks placate the calls for expanding the playoff.

Calipari is not overrated
He broke the rules to get where he’s at. You can rip him for that. But once he got to Kentucky he didn’t need to do that. And he has to coach his balls off against a large turnover of roster most years
But he also gets great talent which makes it easier

Jay Wright has done more in 3 years than a Calipari has done in 30.

Jay Wright was a perennial tournament choker though. He’s gotten over that hump

I liked Tubby. Granted, I'm not a UK fan, so I could afford to just like him as a man.
That's a fair description of Cal. One thing that does make CBB a bit more difficult to dominate as a coach is that game-planning can only do so much, especially as compared to football. Most of it is done before the game, deciding what basic schemes you'll use to deal with the strengths and weaknesses of the other team. At some point, though, it's almost entirely on the players because you don't get those breaks to adjust or change things up like you do between downs in football. That's why being the best Xs and Os coach in basketball is less important than being the best one in football. So that's another obstacle Cal (and all basketball coaches) faces in trying to be consistent.

Jay Wright has had multiple first and second round outs and multiple NIT appearances at Villanova. He even had early outs between his two NCs. And they’ve looked bad this year too.
Just sit down.
Just sit down.

There is no bigger tournament choke artist than Calipari.

I'd like to see his "overrated" arse, be the coach of Bama
