“Its their Super Bowl” is so tiresome.

Big college games are far superior to the Super Bowl. We shouldn’t downgrade them by referring to them as such.

It’s usually said by fans with a superiority complex about their team as a way to undermine the feat of losing to who they perceive to be lesser competition.

Isn't it the second most watched sports event in the World? Or is that Wimbleton. The first is obviously the World Cup....the big games can get up to huge numbers.
I mean Spain vs Argentina drew around 66 Million viewers..
Insane.

It was a retarded cope the first time lane kiffin said it. I dont understand exactly why its ok to lose to a team if they're pumped up about playing you. You should still win the game if you're the better team.

There is times when the statement is appropriate.
I'm not sure there was a game this weekend where that was the case. If you cannot pump your team up for a road conference game or against the #2 team in the nation, the team that embarrassed you the last time you played, and is the defending back-to-back conference champion, then it has nothing to do with it being the other team's super bowl.
And to the OP's point: I'd rather attend a game being broadcast on SEC Network than the soulless Super Bowl that has the majority of those in attendance being recipients of tickets from corporate sponsors at a venue with no history in a large city.
But hey, you get to see a 20 minute concert at the Super Bowl halftime. That totally makes up for the shittier atmosphere.
