Ummmm. I'm pretty sure that it is working.
The conference is as strong as ever.

The new agreement is only for the next so many years.
If it doesn't work well they can always change it to 9 in the future.

fair enough.
but it has been working.
don't be surprised to see it stay so long as the conference remains at 14

7-1-2 is better than 6-0-2 though for divisional integration.

Soon to be announced, Alabama home at home with Duke (2017/2018) and Wake Forest (2019, 2020)

UK is a great argument against the 9 game schedule.
How does making that game occur more often help Bama/LSU/Auburn with strength of schedule?

I don't like the decision and wish it was 9, but I ABSOLUTELY agree with the above statement. You can bet your arse Slive - and ESPN - was very calculated in this decision. I have learned to just trust him.
I think the decision had to do with the ability to open up the SEC Network to national appeal. Many of those OOC games will be scheduled on the SECN I would imagine. So even if the lesser teams of two conferences are being shown, there will be national appeal.
It's sort of the best of both worlds. Get more inventory with more national appeal, yet you don't add to the losses within the conference. Perhaps a genius move even. I've learned to expect no less from Slive.
Again, for me personally, I would prefer 9 games. But, this was for the marketability of a network and the overall health and promotion of the conference. The bitching will be long gone and forgotten once the pads start popping.

Thanks.
It blows my mind that people think 7 games are better for the sec network than 14.
And it blows my mind that people don't see the double-edge sword of more conference games impeding what is currently a great SECCG (2004 and 2010 rankings sunk when Auburn had to play an opponent a second time).

I wonder if any concessions would be made for Notre Dame, BYU, the Service Academies, etc.

Keep fighting the good fight, sonny. Actually, you don't even have to anymore because the war has been won.

& it blows my mind how you think INCREASING the # of conference members DOES NOT warrant INCREASING the # of conference games. Or does playing a team 2X in 12 years vrs. 4X in 12 years sounds better?

Well, all the lead up was just much ado about nothing.

1) it weakens the seccg. And that's the best game of the season.
2) It depletes the sec networks inventory of games. It is 7 fewer games per year to air on tv.
3) The only 9th game that matters is the SECCG. People seem to forget that we already have a 9th game already.
4) it depletes home games for teams and their local cities/economies (forcing a road game in conference every other year).
5) It hurts teams like UGA, Florida, and South Carolina who already handle their own business ooc because of in-state rivals
6) It hurts teams like UGA and Florida who already fore-go a home game for The Worlds Largest Outdoor Coctail Party.
The most important one is #1. That game alone sets the tone for how the conference appears to the country both for the upcoming bowl season but for the NCG as well. And that image is everything.

As a Georgia fan you should be happy about the decision. Or that G next to your handle is a farce in which case you're a damn communist.

We are limited in scheduling OOC. With our neutral site game with Florida and our series with Georgia Tech we are put in a difficult position when it comes to adding any other games as is. Adding a 9th SEC game possibly takes away another home game and sets the school back monetarily as well as from a competitive stand point.
Florida is in the same boat and South Carolina doesn't have it a ton easier outside of the neutral site thing

It's a chicken shite move. Other leagues will play 9 and an OOC opponent on top of it. I just get so tired of seeing games against high school teams. It's shameful.

i got you. i thought that post was in favor of going to 9 games over this

The past 14 years, UGA has scheduled 21 AQ OOC Matchups. About half of them have been on the road (and no... this doesn't include the Boise's, Houston's, or Marshall's, etc..)
Those matchups are good for Georgia football, good for college football, and good for the conference.
Adding a 9th conference game makes almost half of those games non-existent.
That is why it hurts UGA football (going to 9 games and jeopardizing matchups that we've had with Clemson and out West).
