It would not surprise me if Brandon Miller found himself facing a civil lawsuit

He will pay out of court once he signs his NBA contract.

You think her family is going to file a civil suit against the two thugs who are actually charged with her murder or no?

Most likely they will focus on the thug that's about to be a millionaire so there's a shot at collecting.

Probably not, but only because they will have no means to pay damages

The wheels was put in motion when Miller brought the gun. The individual could not by law legally possess a fire arm. He was under the influence(by his own admission) which makes it illegal to carry a gun regardless of your permit status. Miller knew he had been drinking and still enough it to him.

The family will name everyone. The two shooters, Miller, Oats, the athletic department and the University. You have to name the shooters to provide a nexus to everyone else, but always go after the deepest pockets.

And if you don't think they're going after Oaks, well here's this quote....

quote:

For Heard’s family, it all represents intense pain.

“This season is stained in Jamea’s blood,” Heard said. “After what this coach said, for us as a family, this season is stained in the blood of Jamea Harris and it’s not ever washing out. Coach Oats crossed the line [Tuesday]. He said they prayed at practice. They weren’t praying for Jamea. They were praying for their own players.”

Laying the groundwork nicely for an Emotional distress claim...

Yep but it'll probably settle out of court. Plus all the juicy stuff like discovery responses might not be part of public record

I'd love to see the bar security cameras, texts, and Miller's dashboard camera

Agreed it would certainly be fascinating. Has it been explained why Miller had a dash cam?

Exactly. Millions of people have dash cams. Of all the questions that need to be asked, that was not it.

Good points. Each state is different on possession and usage of a handgun. Civil cases do not have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt.

I think even the civil case will depend on Bama gun laws concerning the transfer of a handgun and knowing what the handgun was going to be used for once transferred to the other person.

Idk, only time will tell. Either way, it was a horrible incident that cost the life of a young woman.
