Had a nice run during his first stint at Boise but was mediocre at every other job after that.

Seriously, Saban and the AD fumbled this. The best way would have been for Saban to let them know he is retiring, let the AD do some secret research, offer to Deboer, he accepts and takes the reigns directly from Saban at a press conference.
I really dont give a shite about who your head coach is, the searching period was the death rattle for the program.
