All but 3 of UGA's points against Texas to win the SEC title came after UGA's starting QB hurt his arm.

He's played meaningful snaps in two games against two top 6 teams. FSU last year and Texas this year.

He went 18-26 (70%) with 2 TD, 1 INT. Was sacked twice in those games.

There aren't really any good QB's in this year's playoff. Maybe Gabriel. After that it's Ewers... who if we're honest is very flawed. I have no real concerns about the QB position when it comes to UGA's chances in the playoff.

UGA's next opponent has a passing high this year of 229 yards (against Stanford). I think we have the edge over ND at QB with Stockton playing. Leonard isn't great.

Not a Georgia fan so I don’t know what Stockton has to offer outside of pretty good mobility. The loss of Beck and their punter may be too much to overcome.

ND has a good defense and I expect it will be tough to score much on them. But don’t sell the Georgia defense short. They definitely have the horses to shut down the ND run game and get after Leonard. Anyone expecting ND to push around Georgia doesn’t watch much football.

As for Texas getting past Oregon or Ohio State, they’ll likely need the best game from Ewers since week two and the pass rush can’t go dormant like it did in the second half against Clemson. Even then it might be a coin flip.

Stockton was a higher rated prospect than Beck coming out of high school. Stockton was a prolific HS passer. His scouting compared to Beck has him ahead in every metric other than height (Beck is 6-4, Stockton 6-1) and accuracy on shorter throws. His biggest strengths are downfield vision (which for scouts usually means lack of fear throwing the ball deep), pocket presence and touch.

He's more athletic, but he's not a run first guy, but rather a passer who can run. Think Baker Mayfield rather than Vince Young (not saying he's at either level... I'm talking about the type of game he plays).

The issue for ND is their QB isn't actually very good. I think Stockton is better. Leonard's best passing game was 229 yards vs Stanford. Against A&M (who's the closest comparable team defensively to UGA that ND has played) he had 158 yards passing and 63 yards rushing with 0 TD.

My (probably biased) viewpoint is that UGA has a better defense than ND, better skill possession players than ND on offense and a better QB than ND.

I think ND is a totally 1 dimensional running offense. I honestly can't remember the last time UGA has lost to a one dimensional offense.

But I do admit, I am biased.

I always assumed it would eventually be Jaden Rashada that eventually took the job, I just think its so hard to not start a single game all year and then get thrown into a playoff game against a pretty solid team. I guess we'll see.

he did play the entire second half against Texas without any first team preparation coming into the game. And he played significant minutes against FSU last year since Vandagriff transferred and UGA got up big (he played most of the second half).

Both were top 6 teams. Neither was a home game.

UGA doesn't earmark guys to start. Smart's shown this before (like when Smart kept Jake Fromm as the starter because he was the better player at that point even though Justin Fields was more talented, or when he stuck with Fromm over Eason even though Eason was more talented or when he stuck with Bennett over Daniels even though Daniels was more talented. Smart is always about playing the guy who gives them the most chance to win the next game.

Rashada may end up winning the job next year. But right now Stockton was the backup simply because he did better in practice right now.

All of UGA's QB's are pretty much 2nd tier 4-star recruits.

Beck was a 4-star ranked around 250.
Stockton was a 4-star ranked around 120
Rashada was a 4-star ranked around 80.
Puglisi was a 4-star ranked around 110.

That seems to be the level of QB who's willing to wait to play at UGA rather than be promised a job immediately right now. We had Dylan Raiola committed to UGA for a while, but he didn't want to wait to play at UGA behind Beck and potentially the other guys, so went to Nebraska to play right away instead.

I don't think we'll get that kind of QB recruit anymore. We'll be getting the 4-stars ranked 100-300 in their class. Not the 5-stars ranked in the top 20.

We're not willing to punt on a couple of seasons to start a talented guy who doesn't know the system and loses a couple of games. Instead we'll play a guy like Stockton who's still very good, but has nearly 3 full seasons at UGA coming in as the backup.

Georgia wasn’t impressive this year with Beck, they are very borderline with a backup. Weak sec representative. Bama would have been more competitive

I'm not willing to say something that definitive against any team.

I will say I believe that UGA is a lot more likely to beat ND than to lose. To the tune to 4 out of 5 games. I think the projections are overestimating the impact of UGA losing their QB.

Mainly because I think ND's QB is probably the worst in the playoff field. Maybe second worst ahead of Nico.

I’ll be rooting for Georgia SC Dawg and I’m not trying to flame. I do think experience matters though at QB. Having said that, the Georgia D could very well overwhelm ND and Stockton only needs to game manage and piece together three drives or so. I do feel there will be some drop off in QB play, even though Beck was inconsistent at times.

Serious? Are u serious when you say Georgia is losing to Notre Dumb? Georgias defense alone is good enough to keep them in that game. I think Georgia wins convincingly even without Beck.
Notre Dumb is about to get their
Bell rung coz Georgia ain't no
Indiana.
