Media? I'm looking at his career results only.

In the 80's only UGA and Auburn could claim titles. UGA did and Auburn got screwed by beating a florida team that miami lost to 28-3. I know they beat nebraska but nebraska had played NO ONE in 83 and almost lost to a pedestrian oklahoma when Spencer Tillman went all Barry Sanders. If I am correct nebraska played one team that finished in the top 20. Auburn played texas, georgia, bama, Maryland and I believe florida that finished in the top 20.

Bama was good through the 80s but only 80, 81 and 89 were they top 5 type. Penn state derailed us in 85 and state handed us a crushing loss in 80 that we struggled to recover from.

Tennessee had a great team in 89 but weren't national title good even though they finished 11-1. Ut's 1985 team would have beaten ANYONE by seasons end but didn't start clicking consistently, ironically, until Tony Robinson went down.

It's a lot like the 70s right now with Bama elite, LSU georgia and ole miss being "ok" and Auburn and florida sucking 2 out of 4 years.

Texas 05

Not sure most from the South or Texas would count Texas as "the South." That's more of a Yankee thing. They're too lazy to figure out the difference, but Southerners and Texans generally make a distinction.

Finally, now that A&M is in the SEC there is legitimacy.

The Resumes side-by-side paint a pretty good picture (all rankings are FINAL AP rankings):

#1 MIAMI
Defeated #2 Nebraska, 31-30
Lost to #6 Florida, 28-3
Defeated #16 West Virginia, 20-3
Defeated #20 East Carolina, 12-7
Defeated #25 Florida State, 17-16

#2 NEBRASKA
Lost to #1 Miami, 31-30
Defeated #17 UCLA, 42-10
Defeated #22 Penn State, 44-6
Defeated #23 Oklahoma State, 48-10
Defeated #24 Oklahoma, 28-24

#3 AUBURN
Defeated #4 Georgia, 13-7
Lost to #5 Texas, 20-7
Defeated #6 Florida, 28-21
Defeated #8 Michigan, 9-7
Defeated #15 Alabama, 23-30
Defeated #21 Tennessee, 37-14
Defeated #25 Florida State, 27-14

Each of the three teams had a loss to another Top 6 opponent.... But Auburn had 6 wins over ranked opponents compared to 4 each for Miami and Nebraska.

Nebraska got a lot of credit for the way they ran up the score on all of their opponents. They were certainly a solid team.

For Auburn to play four teams that finished in the Top 8 and come away with just a #3 finish is absurd though.

I would say no. Until a team not named Bama wins the conference and wins a championship I would say this is the golden age of Bama. Sadly for us, their run has destroyed the parity that made our conference so dangerous and respected as a whole.

The 80s were strong. AU, UA, UGA, and UT could all claim a title.

Only UGA was awarded a title.

I would say it's similar to the 60's.
