He was never offered any job.

The Miami president was turned off by his attitude, I doubt he would have taken the Miami job even if offered.
That job has a ton of limitations and is in the ACC.

We have good leadership at MSU now. If Mullen leaves we can find someone else. That's what's exciting to me as an MSU fan. Our leadership has come so far since LT and Charles Lee.
He'll leave one day. After this year? Who knows. It won't be for Oregon or UGA. Hes turned down Miami already.

The way his 2011 class went, and the way his 2012 class has started, I wouldn't be to optimistic, unless he is a better talent evaluator than everyone else, he'll have trouble winning at a high level consistently.
This is why I think he gets out this year, while his rep is still high.

Why would he want to go to Georgia?
Second best recruiting base in the SEC, UGA is in the big 6, get paid more
As much as it pains me to say, Miss State is not a destination job.
I know that Mullen loves Starkville and loves the idea of being able to build something for himself and not have to follow in anyone's footsteps, but turning down a big 6 job would be almost impossible to do.

I've been thinking this is gonna be his last season for some time now. It just makes sense. If Mississippi State is gonna win the West anytime in the near future, this has to be the season. There are big problems in their way though (Alabama, LSU, Arkansas, etc.).

a class full of 3 stars means an average class. 6-7 wins is about average in the SEC. he'll need classes like 2009 & 2010 to continue to win 9 games.

I know if I was a MSU fan I would be worried about his start to his 2012 class. 5 of the 8 commits, Miss St is their only BCS offer, and the ones that have other BCS offers are from the likes of South Florida, Colorado and Pitt. Maybe it'll get alot better by NSD, but I don't see alot of bigtime players looking at MSU right now.
Maybe Mullen is one hell of a talent evaluator, but I would be concerned quite a bit. I know some will take this as a flame, but I think it's a legit question/concern.

I don't look at stars, I look at the offers.
But I see what you're saying.

2010 was very top heavy like 2009
2011 had very little of a top
2012 may if he can pull Quay, Cordarrly Gaines(i think he'll be a 4-star), and Chaning Ward

Kids can lie about offers though. Look at Nick James this year. I understand what you're saying though.
I expect MSU to finish with a signing class between 20 and 35. TCU and Boise will always sign lower ranked recruiting classes than every SEC team, but they'd beat all but one or two. LSU will always sign a higher class than Ark, but Ark wins half those games.
MSU is a place where kids will redshirt. We have two full signing classes waiting. I'd rather have that than true freshmen playing all over the field.

What are State fans thinking their temas will look like in 2012 & 2013? Has Mullen been recruiting well enough to field strong teams in those years?
State will be pretty good again in 2012- I think we will start 9 Sr's- plus Cox will probably leave early. Thats 10 guys we will have to replace.
We dont have a Sr on the roster at WR
Lots of guys return in the Secondary and LB
RB's will be solid
Biggest concerns in 2012 will be new guys on the OL and a new QB

That's what no one here seems to comprehend. This is a glorious era for MS State fans, we have no worries right now. We have a great coach, a talented team this year, a fired-up fan base, a young and inspired AD, plans in place to expand our stadium and facilities, ownership of our in-state rival, hope for bigger and better things ahead, etc, etc, etc,...

I'm not sure why a Mississippi State fan would be saying this. Miami may have facilities that are far behind most other major program, along with no on-campus stadium, but the talent pool UM is sitting in far outweighs that. However, the biggest problem is the lack of competitive coaching salaries. Yet, a coach choosing between Miami and Mississippi state, with no prior relationship with either program, is going to pick UM everyday of the week.
