Texas needs the SEC to stay viable in the new landscape
I'd say continuously finishing top of the country in revenue while winning back-to-back director's cups for being the best athletic department in the nation kin of defeats the argument that Texas "needs" anybody or anything.

the SEC does not need Texas
No arguments here. This is basically just a money play to make every party involved richer.

Texas fans are already posting on the rant and other places about “who belongs” in the SEC.

So basically another Georgia Tech. IF and I mean IF what you say is true, and Texas is dumb enough to try and prune the SEC, Texas will be on the outside looking in. They will be free to join the Big 10 or Pac12. The SEC will still be the strongest conference with or without them (the SEC is already without them)

They have been a big fish in a little pond. The old SWC was comprised of 9 schools, only Arkansas was located outside the state of Texas.

Internal Texas politics have also factored into their behavior over the years. They’ve aligned with other Texas schools to wield power over the rest of the Big 12 at times, and then would run to schools like OU outside of the state when politicians from Baylor, A&M, etc. in Austin weren’t giving them what they wanted.

They will be a strong sports program on the far western fringes of the SEC empire. They will have A&M to keep them in check in the their own state. Plus, the university no longer holds nearly as much sway over the rest of the state like it did for decades.

That's weird. I seem to remember Texas getting crowned as the best athletic department in the nation for the second straight year this year?

They don't have a choice here. They are a bottom tier team in the SEC.

I hope it doesn't go down as you predict. But, as a grad, I haven't received any calls asking for my input, so I go along and cheer for my team wherever they play.

That is wonderful for Texas.

However how many NC has Texas won the the big three sports since 2000? 3? Yes Texas makes a lot of money, but look at how many SEC teams make roughly the same amount (I said the SEC had 10 of the top 20, the Big 12 has 2)

If you think winning the Director's Cups are impressive, then you might want to stay in the Big 12.

Since 2000 Florida has won back to back Basketball titles, Alabama has won back to back Football titles which honestly are more impressive

"The University of North Carolina won the award in its inaugural year, but then Stanford University won the Division I award for 25 straight years until the streak was broken in 2020–21 by the University of Texas."

Does Texas really want to be Stanford in sports?

This is an exciting time for Texas and the SEC. We look forward to joining the SEC and believe that along with Oklahoma we will strengthen and add value to the conference.

I think once the Texas administration has been swatted on the nose with a rolled up newspaper a few times they will either bolt or learn to be a team player.
