Any girl who has dated a guy and given him a compliment and then watched it go straight to his head, watched him prance around, show off, and then fall flat on his face knows why Saban was irritated.

It's humanly impossible for people to play with the same intensity from week to week. I certainly don't think Saban is flawless. I certainly think he's wound up too tight sometimes, and he definitely plays not to lose when he gets a good lead. But to say that this outburst today might be the downfall of his team because it impacts morale, takes the fun out of the game, or whatever else is just looking for things to worry about and finding patterns in the wrong indicators.

I am sorry people get tired of hearing him sound miserable, or assume that it's what makes the guys lose games they should win. Thankfully, Saban, Alabama football, or whoever else isn't set to entertain those people's whims every week who are tired of hearing it. People have strengths and weaknesses, and I guarantee that coaches have a better understanding and sense of self awareness of what to do and how to motivate players after coaching for longer than most of any of us have been alive.

Actually, I disagree with this. The other day in Dallas, AJ threw a couple incompletions on a series in the second half. That put us in negative down & distance, forcing us to punt and killing one drive. Not exactly conservative.

If I recall (not going back to YouTube it), one of the first drives against AU in '10 we threw on first down. The incompletion put us behind the chains again. The stalled drive further added to AU's momentum.

Good God, Man!!

When you are the head coach (or any type of leader), your job is to influence behavior.

He is not trying to "convince (them) that they are no good." He is trying to convince them that no matter how good you are, you need to continue to work towards excellence despite the immediate challenge in front of you. He knows from experience that the biggest enemy of greatness is success. People, especially kids, naturally want to take their foot off the gas when they have a little success. It is his job to keep this from happening.

Dear lord, finally a Bama fan decides to make a post that invites conversation and debate instead of your usual Bama circle jerk fapfest, but all the gumptards go crazy on him. Monticello is one of the best if not the best Bama poster on this board and has been for a while; you Updykes need to show the guy a little respect and quit slobbin on Saban's nuts 24/7.

Monticello

Sometimes I wonder if Saban teams struggle following a national title because he insists that his players adapt his own personality as opposed to adjusting his philosophy to adapt to the age group of his players.

Convincing 18-22 year old kids coming off 2 national titles in 3 years that they are no good, have won nothing, are not the same team, etc is completely impossible in my opinion. Saban sounds redundant to the point that you have to wonder if the players tune out his constant grumbling and negativity in the same way that the fans do.

He is the best in the business, but repeating is the new frontier for him. Maybe it is time to try a different approach that motivates the 20 year old kid more such as "We are the best, lets make history, if you want our trophy come and take it."

We looked good Saturday, but I fear that our team will eventually start to look like past letdown teams who played scared and joyless from the lack of motivation.

No, this is the exact attitude to have IMO because the new team hasn't done anything and last year was last year. You have to come out and play every game at 100% and a certain standard to win. And Saban is the best at motivating these kids and I think 2010 taught Saban something because there is no reason Bama couldn't have won the National Championship that year expample second half of the 2010 Iron Bowl.

Yep. He will scream "finish" until his voice is hoarse all the while calling plays that scream "we already won the game." I don't have to tell you guys whether actions or words are more important. Our team consistently builds leads and quits.

We dominated Texas in the national title game yet were one mistake away from losing the game to a backup QB. We dominated Georgia in the blackout game yet woke up in the 4th quarter to realize it was a one possession game. We dominated Auburn in 2010 only to quit and go into victory mode and eventually lose in heartbreaking fashion.

Saban is the best coach in America, but for Alabama to become a true dynasty, Saban has got to be more of a shark and let the players play.

Good grief.

I don't care if gene stallings was complaining about saban blasting the media...for anyone to say his negativity towards the media is a cause for concern, or better yet the reason we lose a game is just ridiculous. Monty is a good poster, this is just one thought he should have kept to himself.

It's not sabans job to inflate their egos and tell them how great they are and make sure they're having fun, it's his job to win football games. If alabama doesn't repeat, and the odds are against alabama repeating, it will be because that's one of the hardest things to do in sports, not because saban blasted the media for slobbing his teams nob after one game...it's the fans jobs to fap about their greatness.

BTW, USC is kind of famous for losing games like this when they are highly ranked. They've always had the talent, but they just took their foot off the gas at the wrong time.

You're quit the one to talk about homers..If Saban went to Arky next year he could win a National Championship within 3 years. And you would be on here flaming worse than you already do about an Arky team that has done nothing but have a 10 win season. Imagine if Arky had won 2 National Championships in the past 3 years. Oh Yeah, You can't because you're still Arky with J.L Smith..

Somebody needs to make a Hipster Fan meme for all these guys. The intentionally ironic crowd of college football is just as douchey as the black rimmed, skinny jeaned, coffee drinking hipster crowd.

I highly doubt Saban could win a national title at Arky. He requires a defense full of 5 star talent to win big, and Arkansas doesn't recruit itself like Bama or LSU does. Think of his success at Michigan State and that's closer to how well he would do at Arkansas.

And yeah, I'm a big homer, I'll admit, but I am always up to debate and question head coaches no matter who it is. I thought the world of Bobby Petrino before last spring but I never had a problem questioning any of his game decisions or approaches to the game.

Most of his best players on defense in 2009 were all 3* or less.

Terrence Cody 3*
Javier Arenas 2*
Rashad Johnson 2* walk-on
Marcel Dareus 3*
Lorenzo Washington 3*
Corey Reamer 3*
Eryk Anders 3*

Obviously, there were 4* guys like Rolando McClain in the mix, but the majority of the playmakers were not very highly ranked.

On the idea that Arkasas doesn't recruit itself like Bama or LSU do, that wouldn't matter at this point, because the name "Nick Saban" does more recruiting than the school does, IMO. Playing for the best college football coach in the country is more enticing than playing at a school with a rich tradition.

Saban seems to be doing just fine to me. There are only a handful of decisions that are questionable IMO that Saban has made in a few games.

Would you rather have someone that's uptight but consistent like Saban or someone that acts like they don't care sometimes ? And these young kids that play football for him slack up on a game because they think they can play at 75% and still win like the Bama team did in "2010" and we know how that turned out. Myself I like consistency atleast you know what to expect and what you're gonna get from Saban," like it or not". Look at Mark Richt on the side line looking like he really doesn't care winning or losing maybe that's why his players are inconsistent and show up some games and play 100% and other games it looks like they are playing at about 75% and end up losing a game that they should have won. Saban try's to teach these kids to come out every game and play to their best,"Which is Saban's stanard". Would you rather the play your best but lose a game and left it on the field or play a game and lose but felt like you could have played better and didn't do all you could to win ? This is why Saban preaches this. Also he doesn't have players out there getting in trouble all the time like LSU,Georgia and Auburn. Saban reminds me of my dad teaching me to do my best at everything I do no matter what it is and that is a great moral to have and live by that a lot of kids don't have these days. This is what's wrong with society now. There is not enough discipline in public schools,households...etc.
