Of all the people in this thread you want to call me butthurt?

I just think its silly to say that his methods dont work when he is widely excepted as the best coach in college football right now.

I HAVEN'T SAID HIS METHODS DON'T WORK. I acknowledged that going conservative is his MO and it has cost us a game before. That's it. He's still a great coach and the best in the business. Once again I refer back to no one is above criticism. We don't have to be mindless drones that think he walks on water and is the second coming.

Agree. We play great as an underdog. But like you say, we are not going to be underdogs. Maybe Saban needs to realize that kids pay more attention to ESPN than they do to locker room lectures and try to motivate the kids with how great they are and how dominant they can be. Instead he tries to pointlessly convince them they suck.

This is why my arse would pucker like a mofo when we got behind when saban was here. He isn't the best playing from behind.

It works for some teams, if course it helps when you're supremely talented.

Rolando McClain said it best in what was the best display of a team leader I've seen ( I'm sure there are many other cases but this one found it's way to YouTube)

"we Alabama cuz the way we do shite. They don't practice like us, they don't play like us, they not us. You can't get this shite anywhere else. It's in us boys, it's in us!"

There were many more 4 letter words edited out...but you get the point. Saban brainwashes his players into believing that they can't be stopped, but it's his job to make sure the fine line between confidence and complacency isn't crossed. That can be a difficult task when you yourself have created the monster

Oh I'm sure he makes mistakes. He is married. Any married man will tell you that it doesnt matter how perfect you are, you will still frick up a minimum amount of times per day whether you know about it or not. And if you dont know about it, she will make sure you do before too long.

Scared and joyless? Who the hell said they were supposed to be having fun in the first place? They are on scholarship. They are given a free education in exchange for the use of their athletic skills. They have a job to do. I don't care if they're fricking miserable. Just play, and play hard.
case in point.

I have not seen Saban give a member of the media a good verbal beat down this off season. He got really angry at a reporter during his last press conference and used the word "presumptive." Before the 2010 season he was in a rather foul and negative mood the whole off season. I don't know if that is an indicator of team motivation but that might be a positive sign?

We haven't been an underdog in a single game since December 2009. In 2011, we were favored in many games by multiple touchdowns and didn't break a sweat in most of those. That team was hardly an underdog as they began the season ranked #2 in all America.

Some of you guys act like the little snippets of frustration we are privy to hearing are the only thing he's saying to the players all practice long, every day.

You do realize he brings in motivational speakers and sports psychologists to talk to the team and/or players on a regular basis. They have team movie night where they watch a movie that has a theme usually around teamwork with a positive message, etc etc. He does a lot of things that provide a positive energy and a team atmosphere. Those are just a few things off the top of my head - I'm sure there is a lot more.

Exactly, which is why the premise of the OP is very ignorant and cynical.

It's Saban's M.O. Instead of beating down an opponent, he gets a lead and then becomes conservative which in essence allows an occasional team or two to get back into the game.

Yep. He will scream "finish" until his voice is hoarse all the while calling plays that scream "we already won the game." I don't have to tell you guys whether actions or words are more important. Our team consistently builds leads and quits.

We dominated Texas in the national title game yet were one mistake away from losing the game to a backup QB. We dominated Georgia in the blackout game yet woke up in the 4th quarter to realize it was a one possession game. We dominated Auburn in 2010 only to quit and go into victory mode and eventually lose in heartbreaking fashion.

Saban is the best coach in America, but for Alabama to become a true dynasty, Saban has got to be more of a shark and let the players play.

Some of our fans are unbelievable. Saban brought Bama back from the dead, has won 2 of the last 3 national titles, and currently has Bama ranked #1, again.

And people still find a way to bitch.

Yep. Times are good. But just like Saban expects more out of his players every single year, regardless of what they have accomplished in the past, shouldn't we expect our coach to improve as well?

Barron saw that pass coming from a mile away and if not for a torn muscle that would have been a pick. Surely none of that is Saban's fault.

Not sitting a DB who can't lift his arm? You are damn right that one is Saban's fault. Best coach in America. Not perfect.

Valid perspective. Saban is obviously a perfectionist and a very demanding coach. I guess what you are saying is relax and live a little. Frankly this has been Richt's approach and to be honest I feel it leads to lack of discipline on and off the field. I like a coach who is all business. And I would guess that if Bama doesn't repeat as NC this season, it won't be because Coach Saban didn't do every thing in his power to make it happen.

Thanks for your contribution. I love coach Saban and we have a great program running like a machine. But I think Saban would be the first to tell you that repeating is very hard and is the last real accomplishment he has yet to achieve to cement his legacy in history. I want to see it happen and I know Saban is working hard to make it happen. I just hope he is not too stubborn to admit that the tear them down to build them up strategy may not always be the best strategy when dealing with the modern teenager on a reigning national title team.

Coach Saban has until today been extremely complimentary both of this year's team and of a number of individual leaders on the team. He praised them for reporting to camp in the best condition of any team he has coached at Bama.

Saban has singled out Barrett Jones and A.J. McCarron for their leadership roles. He has been more positive in every aspect of his evaluation of this team.

I think this outburst was twofold. He wanted to get his team's attention back after their dramatic ascent to the top of CFB. They probably had a lousy, unfocused practice and Saban wanted to take them down a peg. He directed most of his remarks at the media for being presumptive and disrespectful to WKU.

Saban has been almost human this year. You had to know he could not keep it up forever.

I think A.J. has matured this year. He would not take the bait in the post game interview, refusing to agree that the Tide was sending any messages in their opening performance.

I think Nick knows that this class has a chance to do something special. He is losing his O-Line so he knows they need to get it done this year.

You are a complete dumbass.

Why do you think you're so in tune with Saban you know what he thinks?

His legacy is what it is regardless of what you say he needs to do.

Go get a girl/boy friend and you'll be less bitchy.
