Went on my first swamp tour earlier this year actually.

Went on my first one many years ago while back in Baton Rouge for Thanksgiving at my parents' house. Never would have gone on my own but my wife isn't from Louisiana so playing tourist seemed like a good idea. The one we went to was in a swamp (Lake Martin?) right behind the Lafayette airport. It was a pretty cool tour. Tourist trap, for sure, but a fun way to see the swamp.

My brother and I rented a canoe at Alligator Bayou and gave ourselves a self guided tour of that swamp. I understand the bar got flooded out and never reopened. That was a fun place to hang out on Sunday nights.

I still have yet to see the Bluebonnet "swamp". Maybe I'll take the kid next time I'm down. What I really miss is going up to Clark Creek in Wilkinson County. I'd never been there until we went up on a field trip for a Geology class at LSU. Closest waterfalls to Baton Rouge. The Pond General Store is a time warp. Just loved driving out that way. Good excuse to explore the Felicianas or head out to Natchez. That's why I ended up in Oregon -- my attraction to the hills and hiking meant I wasn't long for the flatlands.

Funny thing, I’ve lived in Louisiana my whole life and don’t think I’ve been in an actual swamp once.

That is odd.

Think the bluebonnet one is closed. The tour I went on was on Lake Martin, left out of breaux bridge.

The geology trip to Clark Creek was legendary. Can’t remember the old dude’s name but I do remember having a couple pints of Beam in my backpack

ETA: getting some Sioux City sasparilla as a mixer and rap snacks at the general store was a real treat

Not everybody hunts or fishes.

I mean, most do, but some don't.

I don't think my dad ever took me fishing and he didn't own a gun. He was into golf, football and baseball. I have little interest in hunting but I wish I was a much better fisherman. Unfortunately, my fishing skills are about on par with my golf game.

So you were talking about this year?

I mean, seasons aren’t over yet but yea I could see Louisiana having a claim to that in just these most recent years if LSU wins the natty in football, makes CWS in baseball, sweet 16 in B-ball, saints do well in the playoffs, and the pelicans make the playoffs. It’s way too early right now though

Yeah, I think Champagne's is the one I went on. I think my daughter would love it. She was in her mama's belly the last time we went.
