Are people in this thread seriously defending Burton here?
Like I really don't understand how you defend this. Oh she was on the field, she was asking for it. Oh yea, so was about 50 thousand other people. How about any dudes that was close to you, if you felt that threatened. Burton needs his arse kicked. Period.
He pushed her.
If you want to make a bigger deal out of it than that, then yes I guess people will defend him.

No charges have been filed
Because there is no case. Even if they were filed, they wouldn't stick.

No. UT police are soft on crime. UT police condones woman beating.
Apparently they also have no issues with those afflicted by ALS being assaulted.

Is your assaulting safety still on the team?
The one that is suspended indefinitely for hitting a drunk guy that walked into his girlfriends apartment? That’s the best you have?

Heupel: Tennessee Safety No Longer Suspended
A whole 8 days for an active felony assault case

If he is no longer suspended then the charges were dropped(as expected)

Fans don't belong on the field while players are on the field.
Stay in your seats and you don't get hit. Fan is completely at fault.
If someone jumps in a shark tank and gets bite, who's fault is it?
You'd be singing a much different tune if he wasn't on the Bama payroll.

Did they already change it to a misdemeanor or something? I know student athletes at a public school in FL are automatically suspended when they're charged with a felony.

Maybe you should read the actual link first.

Question. Is the Shark an adult human male or female that understands basic laws and the concept of right and wrong?

There is nothing to suggest that the charges were dropped or altered

You’re such a loser and the biggest douche of all.

It's a pretty well known rule that fans are not allowed on the field.
If the player hit the fan off the field, he should be in jail.
The fan came on the field, where they have no business being. Shot happens when you are somewhere where you don't belong.
I'm not defending him because he's a Bama player, I would defend any player on any team in this situation because the fan is 100% in the wrong.

SEC officials said there wasn't a penalty, therefore it never happened.

He got an extra ice cream cone. When you come on the field, your like those streakers in the NFL. Fair game.

In today's environment I don't ever see him playing another down of football at any level.

I didn't see the video, but y'all remember when that Alabama state trooper mowed down that aggie girl when they stormed the field last year?
That trooper should have also been charged with assault. That was totally unnecessary. I have no problem seeing a cop in handcuffs.

quote:Apparently it does, at least when you get near a player who doesn’t have a problem hitting women out of anger and frustration that his team lost a game.
If you go where you don't belong, shite happens.
I hope you realize that this justification of yours assumes that it should be expected that these young men are animals that have no self control.
quote:A player punches someone in the stands or on the field, that’s still battery. The woman was running by him and he went out of his way to hit her.
Fans in the stands. Players on the field. If a player goes into the stands and hits someone. The player needs to go to jail.
quote:It certainly is a safety issue when players assault fans. I don’t think that’s the safety issue the SEC was thinking about.
The SEC fines schools for having fans on the field for a reason. It's a safety issue.
quote:If the player doesn’t go out of his way to hit a woman, nothing happens, either. There were thousands of fans on the field and only one (maybe two?) reports of fans being attacked, by a football player.
If the fan doesn't go on the field, nothing happens to them.
