The NCAA exists at the behest of, and for the convenience of the P5. The power conferences have created their own networks and fund football directly. The Ncaa runs the basketball tournament and pockets nearly all the money from that (almost $1B this year). In exchange, we get what? Fake classes at UNC and the hammer for Mizzou?

The NCAA has no actual power over either the bowls or the BCS, or football at all and technically can't ban anyone from them. If the P5 agreed to move back to the NIT the NCAA would be done and good riddance. And we could start figuring out what to do with that $1B. I propose the Missouri legislature kick start this process by passing a law making it illegal for a state-funded school to pay a 'fine' to a private organization such as the NCAA. I also propose the SEC issue a statement that Missouri, as a member in good standing, will play in whatever SEC postseason games the SEC sees fit to invite them to.

It has been for years. It only takes a couple of schools to say they are leaving and it will crumble overnight.

the NCAA creates the perception of fairness. Actual power is moot. Nobody will get rid of the NCAA unless it hurts the pocketbook. As long as everyone is fat and happy, you will get status quo.

For the most part the exact same people would be running it. Why would it be any different?

I don't really care. It's not that harsh a penalty really, but the NCAA has an image to maintain so they had to do something.

Mizzou was going to be rebuilding anyway and struggle to make a decent bowl. If you're going to get a bowl ban this is the year, and a couple of scholarships a year isn't exactly insurmountable. Especially for a program that's well run enough to withstand it, which I believe Mizzou definitely is.

This isn't the end of the world, so let's not invoke the nuclear option.

The SEC and Big 12 (i say this because the others would never agree) should merge, dump the NCAA, pay players, and start reaping the benefits of not getting fleeced by bowl committees for football and ncaa for basketball. Our football playoff would immediately rival the fbs and our basketball tournament (where we could try to lure non power 5's) would catch up w/ the talent paying players would bring. Even bringing this up would gain some respect from the pricks but our commissioner has no balls.

Yeah I'm done with Mizzou. They are a joke. I was mad when we added them. I'm madder now.

Just ditch Emmert and put someone over it that isn't crooked. The NCAA used to not be so biased and had balls.

I never thought I'd see a bunch as unwilling to pay penance and move on -- and finding a boogeyman behind every corner and blaming their historical rival for the bed they made -- as aggy.

Enter Missouri.

Y'all wanted these whining, short-dicked cheaters, SEC folks, and now you have 'em.

The BCS and the earlier Bowl Coalition largely came about due to speculation that the SEC was seriously considering leaving the NCAA, paying players, and working out it's own tv contracts. I believe Roy Kramer was commissioner at the time and he played it very coy with parsed denials that he knew would feed the flames. The Pac-10 and Big-10 had no interest in disrupting their Rose Bowl deal.

You know the NCAA is comprised of the member schools ? They are the ones who make up the rules and determine what is legal and illegal. As bad as the NCAA is from a legislative standpoint, it has been very beneficial to the schools. Ditching the NCAA would be like a private businessman firing himself.

It’s funny how only schools who run into trouble with the ncaa say this...
