The ongoing Auburn soap opera is always entertaining but the past two years have really been fun.

The tragic comedy hasn't even begun, wait till they actually cut CBH loose.

Couldn't get it done last year. What make you think this year any different?

I didn't think it was ever disclosed. A school would have to pay his buyout, and commit to at least $10 million per year to even have a conversation with him, considering his incentives push him upwards of $9 million based on various wins and such. Smart is the highest paid coach at $10.25 million. That's only the financial aspect. You also have to consider that he has low pressure, has built his transfer portal monster machine, has no dumpster fire to put out, no impatient boosters, access to the university jet (so he can be on his boat in Florida 2-3 hours), his daughter just moved in with him for the 1st time since his divorce, and he likes Oxford.

Why would he go to Auburn?

Auburn keeps finding ways to beat Ole Miss in football. Last year and possible again this year.

Some will due to ignorance. A lot of us also understand the unlikelihood of that, financially and non-financially.

Lane knows he can win it all in Oxford. He also saw that it can be done at Auburn. Auburn has more money, larger fanbase and a much better location for recruiting.

Then how come it is a dumpster fire right now? How did that ever happen in the first place? Must it be something more serious going on at Auburn that is scaring top coaches from becoming the next HC at Auburn.

Last year, almost our entire starting lineup on the offensive side was injured. Then Corral was injured in the game. The fact that we still had a chance to win it at the end was amazing and showed just how terrible Auburn was. They should have boat raced us considering that they were playing our 2nd and 3rd string.

Be careful for what you wish for. Lane Kiffin would probably love to own Saban with Auburn.

Lane is waiting for the A&M job to open up. Much more job security and bigger paycheck than Barn.

You make a decent point, BUT there is one major historical precedent that is in Ole Miss’s favor for beating Auburn this year

Ole Miss only has 3 wins over Auburn in the last 20 years. Those 3 years were 2008, 2012, and 2015. Those were also the only 3 years in that span Auburn finished last in the West, and that’s looking like a strong likelihood to happen again this season

This was created when then President Leath hired Greene and the gave Gus a big contract extension. Most Boosters did not like either move, but had to support the President ( who was also an idiot). Then they fired Leath and temporarily replaced him with Gogue, who had a great academic reputation. He didn't care much about sports for a university. When the PTB had their fill of Gus, Gogue allowed them to fire him. Gogue did not like the PTB formed a committee and conducted interviews without Leath's hire Greene involved. He gave complete authority to Greene to make the hire. That is how we got Harsin. Finally Gogue retired for good and was replaced by the Dean of Engineering, who emphasizes the importance of sports for an university. Greene was shown the door and now things are in the hands of AUs new President. Most AU fans are comfortable with the new President and Sports at AU, first time in over 20 years.

I don't know. Sometimes I think money is the only thing we have. Not leadership or plans or strategy, just lots of money to throw around.

The only former Ole Miss coach Auburn could get is Hugh Freeze

No more dysfunctional than any university. Bama is not like that now because of Saban. Everyone knows that will change when he retires, that is how it was before.

If Auburn PTB will just hold on a little while, Jimbo Fisher likely will be available.

Agreed. He would have been able to win big there. I truly believe that.

Bill is retired, citing health reasons. Waiting for AU to come knocking.
