It was actually the opposite. Alabama was recruiting Jewish kids from the northeast that were being denied college entry based on them being Jewish.
My bad. I knew that Bama did heavily recruit the NE and it had something to do with the Yankees not wanting their kids to go to school with the Jewish kids.

A few years ago at a mutual friend's wedding, I ended up speaking with a woman who was in the Admissions Dept. at UA. She said about 90% of the time when she asks an applicant/student tour from the Northeast why they are looking at Alabama, they mention watching the team on the CBS mid-afternoon kickoff.

However, the enrollment figures by year show that the height of OOS recruitment was 2016/2017 and since then it has been coming down as a % of total new undergrad enrollment. 2020 had more in-state kids (2,701) than any class since 2012.

I am obviously trolling on this, but don’t shoot me, this is from your alumni, not me. If I never step foot again on the campus I am good.

It’s more money for the school obviously, (So you can pay 250 a player) but if you don’t think it will change the culture over time...

I never though that much about it but an LSU buddy of mine that lives in NY told me his son is at bama which surprised me but he said a bunch of his sons friends are there too. They love it but are hardcore Yankees now.

I raised my kids right even though one did go to Auburn.

It's already changed culture, some of it for the better.

It's a pretty widely discussed issue with alums and has been for going on a decade now. The size and makeup of the student body is drastically different than it was in the 2000s, for better or worse.

I probably stay maybe a minute away from you. Closer to University off Old Shell so maybe not a minute during this time of day. Maybe we walked pass each other... I occasionally go to Carpe Diem Coffee not too far from Tuthill.

Yeah most of them. I am not sure how dekes have stayed out of trouble. I honestly think that’s my son ruled out bama so early, all the hazing stories. He would have fit in much better at bama or Ole Miss.

As long as it doesn’t become Vandy or something might be for the best

I dunno about modern day (everything is so different now), but they were always the far end of the hazing spectrum in the 2000s when hazing still existed but was on its last leg. Or, they at least loved for people to think that they were big time hazers. Never knew exactly which it was.

But they reveled in it.

We know the same people I am sure. I live three blocks away from Carpe Diem. I think they are still closing at 3 pm for some reason. I used to keep an account there so the kids could get spunky monkeys after school until they abused it. Not a huge coffee drinker but I just love the smell of that place.

My wife and I walk that outdoor tracks etc at USA

They broke a friend of mine son’s arm a few years ago, they are as bad as we were in the 80s. LSU dekes are gone for this shite. I was surprised to see hazing is bad at Texas too. I really never got it, I was pledge trainer and hell master in my day but I never took any pleasure in abusing people, hurting people and we did mostly mental hazing in my week. They hated it and it sucked but no one wad injured.

We were blooded and bruised after mine

I'm the same way, my wife and daughter love the place. Admittedly I as well.... despite not really being a coffee drinker, it has nice home feel to it and try to support small businesses in the area glad they made it through 2020.

Wow - interesting (and not in a good way). Our house (in general, not personally) did tons of sleep depravation, yelling and screaming, alcohol hazing, all that stuff......but physical stuff outside of sitting on the wall or something was generally off limits. It was kind of a red line. I generally just grabbed kids and made them clean my room for 10 minutes then let them take naps or play video games .

DKE always had the reputation of having absolutely no red line, anywhere. But they also very rarely talked about it, even later in school when we'd all be doing grad work together and became friends. It was always kind of strange.

They are tight lipped, but will talk if they trust you after a few drinks.

One thing you guys are honesty world class about is keeping secrets. LSU not so much, that’s what you guys have never really understood that we have some many smaller colleges etc that there is real anti LSU sentiment in Louisiana, from alumni and associates of these schools like USL etc. It’s a real problem for us and like if USA and all the other schools got all their people elected to legislature and tried to screw bama.

We also have two many factions at LSU and are like Auburn in this regard.

The new hazing is not good for anyone. I can only imagine if a parent lost a child to that
