If programs can just self-proclaim championships, why even play the games. Just have spring practice and everybody claim their trophies.
Bama has won the A-Day National Championships for decades now!

can you tell me what the standard is?
I have never even heard of several of the "polls" Auburn is using to justofy some of these. And the wikipedia national champions page lists a whole bunch of obscure ratings systems.
James Howell’s Power Ratings System, Montgomery Full Season Championship, Darryl Perry and GBE College Football Ratings sound made up.
Claiming extraneous titles in the poll era that weren't the AP/UPI/Coaches/BCS/CFP, depending on which era you full under, is embarrassing. 1958, 1993, 2004. Please

Looked up that 1910 season. Conference foe Vanderbilt, went undefeated with one tie against Yale (defending national champ) and only have up 2 points the entire season. They did not claim a national title in 1910. Michigan has an equally hilarious claim for that season. They went 3-0-3 and claim a title.
There's honestly a ton of random claims back then. Prior to the poll era, basically all national title claims are retroactive because there was no system to crown national champs back then

Are you trying to throw shade on claiming titles in years based on polls that didn't exist in those years? Sure you want to go down that route? Or am I misinterpreting your post?

Have a source for this? The Montgomery Advertiser?
What I've read in the recent claims is that the "Montgomery Full Season Championship" selected them?
What was this? Where was it published? When?

google is turning up nothing. I can't find any information about that existing other than the articles published yesterday about Auburn claiming their title from that publication. I'd love to know who they crowned as champs in other seasons.

pretty wild that if you search exactly that query, spanning millions and millions of newspaper articles using that search engine, that specific poll comes up exactly one time. I honestly hope it's actually some local newspaper out of Montgomery, Alabama.

That list is wild. Notre Dame has never claimed 1953, nor USC 1968 or a bunch of others on there. Notre Dame was AP champions in 73.. Ohio State won neither.
What's more is the NCAA doesn't recognize that crap organization that made that list. And that says a lot because the NCAA recognizes a bunch of them.
