Trouble is Bo got most of the carries. But any backfield with Bo Jackson is for sure a damn good one.

USC had a backfield with 2 Heisman winners in it. That's pretty impressive.

Fred Jackson had over 2500 APY this year for the Buffalo Bills.

Lionel James (part of the greatest backfield ever in 1983 ) held the NFL record for single season APY for over a decade. In fact it may have been LT that broke it almost two decades later (but can't remember for sure if someone else did not before him).

No. Put McFadden/Jones on Bama's '09 team, running behind that line, I would take this duo any day over Ingram/Richardson.

I don't think Ingram/Richardson would do what McFadden/Jones did behind ArKansas' line.

Considering that the majority of Ingram's yards came after the initial hit by a defender, I think he probably would have done pretty well even behind a crappy O-line. TR's best highlight reel run of the year was a result of about 4 or 5 broken tackles too. Also, Nutt's O-lines at Arky were usually pretty good. He put several players into the NFL.

Bo is the only one that'll get remembered as a super star. That said tho, I don't remember the other guys but I'm sure older ppl do.

Lionel James at AU:

quote:

James was a football letterwinner for the Tigers from 1981-83, and remains 11th on Auburn's all-time career rushing list with 2,068 yards. With a career average of 6.14 yards per carry, James ranks third in Auburn history and led the Tigers in all-purpose yardage for two consecutive seasons.

Lionel James in the NFL:
quote:

In the 1985 season James set the NFL record for all purpose yards (combined yards rushing, receiving, and returning kicks) in the history of the NFL with 2,535 yards. That same season he also set the record for receiving yards by a running back with 1,027 yards [1] while also leading the AFC in receptions with 86. On November 10th of that same year he had his best day as a pro versus the Los Angeles Raiders. He gained 345 all purpose yards including a career best 168 yards receiving and scored the winning touchdown in overtime.

The all purpose yard record was broken in 2000 by Derrick Mason of the Tennessee Titans (2,690 yards).

quote:

He has gained 2,194 all-purpose (receiving, rushing and kick returns) yards this season and, with two games left, could break Terry Metcalf's NFL record of 2,462 yards for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1975. James's size obviously hasn't hurt him; that's because he hasn't let it. "This is the way I figure it," he says. "If some guy's bigger than me, then he's not as fast, and if he's as fast—then I guess it's about time for me to get out of the league."

This year, James has twice been named AFC Offensive Player of the Week, once after a 316-yard game against the Bengals on Sept. 22, and again after a 345-yard day against the Raiders on Nov. 10. The latter performance was just 28 yards shy of the single-game record of 373 all-purpose yards set by Billy Cannon of the AFL's Houston Oilers in December 1961. After Sunday's games, James was first in the league in pass receptions with 75 and had scored three TDs of 50 yards or more. Yet here he was joking about being run out of the NFL. "Oh, no, my Lionel won't brag about anything he's done," says Cherrine James, Lionel's mother. "He does it and then he's through with it."

"All season, Lionel has been the most dynamic force on our offense," says Charger receivers coach Al Saunders. "He's so smart, so gifted at taking the proper running angles. He has great body control and a change of direction defenders can't cope with." Cleveland linebacker Tom Cousineau puts it more succinctly: "The big problem with Lionel is finding him."

Agee was one of the better blocking backs in NFL history and responsible for a lot of Emmit Smith's sucess and has two super bowl rings. Bo said he was the best fullback he ever ran behind.

Fullwood sat behind Bo his first two years and was mainly special teams in 1983. He had 3758 all purpose yards in about 2.5 seasons at AU due to being behind Bo. Higher YPC than Bo. Almost 1600 APY his senior season. 4 years in the NFL though injured a good bit. First round draft pick that led the Packers in rushing.

AU during that time did not know what a forward pass was and ran the wishbone. Our qb - Randy Campbell threw 5 ints his whole career and might have had 1000 yards passing his whole career, maybe.
