From a technical and conceptual standpoint, twitter and message boards are identical. The core underlying data element is the same, as well as a large chunk of the application layer. The technologies in use of course differ and twitter would have a more robust middle layer by offering more services. Conceptually though they are the same. The presentation layer is once again conceptually the same (mobile and desktop), with twitter having more features.
While you can say they are different animals, which they would be, they are from a technical world the same animal. Twitter more of a Lion and SECRant a mere house kitten.
Social Media is very redundant across all platforms and many offer the same services.

This doesn’t even matter because we are going to act like it’s true from here on out regardless. The same way people post every time we play “I thought y’all weren’t called the rebels anymore?” The damage is done.
