Memphis got a question. In Gimp, if you have a solid background and you post an image that you want to fade from center out from full capacity to none, which tool do you use?

sorry, I don't understand your question.
You want to make it an image fade out gradually, but in reverse of what the normal blend tool would do?

Like if your Avi had a bigger red border around it and say it was pasted on a black background, how would you fade the red around the image gradually into the black background but leave the subject visual and not blurred?

Hmmmmm , I'm not positive, but try making it two different layers. Your image as one layer and your background as another. After you bend them, you can merge the layers down and you should have the effect you want if you follow these steps.
First choose your background and forground colors and select the blend tool. You will need to bring up the blend menu. If it doesn't appear on your dockable download bar then just double click the tool.
Then select your radius, and click on the screen and drag it where you want the blend. You have an option for a spherical blend so that might be what you want. You also may need to try several times.
