I thought he could go play for the Jets and then return to Bama.

All he has to do it try.

It's not about the money he makes in the next 10 years, it is about the decades after that. In pretty much every field, more opportunities open up if people see you as loyal. If someone can trust you not to leave for a bigger bag of money, they want to do business with you. Also he will be able to do a lot more speaking engagements which are easy money. A guy like Colt McCoy is still making 50k a pop for showing up to an event and talking a few hours.

but I don't think the Alabama fans will look back at him too fondly, considering he didn't win anything.

bullshite. Alabama fans respect the hell out of him for sticking it out when he could have transferred years ago.

Did Alabama win the national championship? No. But Ty led Alabama to the SEC championship game, the playoffs, and a top 10 finish. That is a good season.

I truly wonder what goes on in the brains of many here. The whole place feels like one giant mental health emergency.

Ty Simpson showed integrity in a time of lawlessness and legalized bribery. I applaud the kid.

Depends on the NIL offer. If they were desperate I'd have them match the potential NFL offer if they could. See how far you could get them to go.

It would have to be for significantly more than a 1st round pick offer. If it were equal, and he got injured or played poorly he might lose millions of dollars. As someone above pointed out, a first round pick will be guaranteed several years. No NFL team is cutting a first round draft pick in the first two years, particularly a QB, unless he gets in some kind of trouble....bad trouble.

Was Alabama just not willing to give him a decent offer to return?

Supposedly told to go pro or transfer.

or a late first round pick to the Jets organization?

in 2025 the #1 pick got a contract for $43.01m with a rookie salary of $7.82m. The last pick of the first round got a contract for $13,349,728, with a rookie salary of $2,427,223.

He probably could have gotten more than the 1st year salary out of NIL, but not the contract value.

The Miami folks are happier with Mensah and they are paying Mensah more than $6.5 mil. Much more.
