Les miles first few years at LSU. Georgia's not gonna reel off national titles in Football in any era but they will win one soon. It all depends on if UGA fans compare him to saban. Les miles problem at LSU wasn't wins and losses, his problem was he wasn't Nick Saban.

This isn't true. Just look at his final 5 years and then focus on the final 3. Les was Richt. That was his problem and that was Richt's problem.

Now I also think it would be too much to expect a Saban at Bama type run. What Saban has done at Alabama from 2007-present is one of the most successful runs in college football history.
It is without question the greatest run in college football history, certainly during the poll era beginning 1936 - it's not even close. The next best 5 NC run is Bama from 64-79, 16 years. They added a 6th in 1961, 19 years. Only ND, OU, USC, OSU and Neb have 5+ NCs in their entire poll history. The rest of the SEC combined has a total of 11 in its history, only 5 before the BCS era. Bama is currently on a 10 year streak of being number 1 at some point during the season, the previous high was 7 years at Miami. The consistency is remarkable. And all of this during the most competitive period in CF history. This is why IMO, Coach Saban has surpassed coach Bryant. They've won a NC or SECC in 7 of the past 9 years. They are 2 seconds away from the first ever 3peat, and the K6 away from another possible 3peat. We could go on with the numbers.
When it stops, who knows. But in terms of a burning fire and talent, there's no perceptible let up.

You had a great year and were oh-so-close. You've almost always had a lot of talent and that will continue with an uptick. But there are a lot of questions for any program:
- if you have success, how would you handle it? Urban Meyer, the 2nd best coach, has had fabulous talent at OSU, but has 1 NC in his 5 years. USC under Carroll had 2 NC, 3 appearances in his 10 years with talent that no one will exceed. Texas had tremendous talent under Mack Brown, but 1 NC, 2 appearances. You will be driven until you win a NC, but then what?
- how will you handle the kind of loss you had in the NC game? How will you handle not winning until you win one. What will the fans demand from Kirby? If this board is any indication, hopefully it's not, you will have a hard time coping with coming up short. The final mile is the longest.
- if...how would you handle coaches leaving
- if...how would you handle players leaving early
- if...how would you handle being the hunted
You haven't even climbed the mountain yet which is difficult enough, you have no idea how hard it is to maintain. Even as a fan, who has to do nothing, the fire begins to dissipate after success. It's amazing.
The bottom line is that it's impossible to speculate on how any program will perform in a scenario that it has not experienced. Even Bama with its historical and recent comfort level with elite success, may win 3 of the next 4 or 1 or none of the next 10. You will find that what appears inevitable will be more elusive than you think. IMO, you will have success, but it will likely be very different from what you are dreaming of at this time.

Kirby is in much better position at UGA because of the talent within the state. As of today it appears Kirby is a really good coach and CEO (Nick is elite at CEO) so the future is really looking great for the Dawgs. The real question is can Kirby and staff manage the entitlement factor that goes with being at the top. We'll see.

getting the Dawgs to the natty in only his 2nd year as HC, he's proven he can coach.
You never know though. Gus got Auburn to the natty in his first year and Chizik in his second (and won it) and most of the people here who in retrospect think Gus is crazy and Chizik can't run a program.
There is no ahead of schedule. There is just taking opportunities when you can.

Stop, you're killing me

Don't forget that you guys LOST the NC to Bama who was having a down year. You still haven't won anything besides an SEC Championship which is good.
Georgia is no Bama. Hell, you guys are not even an LSU or a Florida yet. Really not even an Auburn quite yet.
Seriously, win one NC and then maybe you can deserve to have these kind of discussions.

Coach Saban is worried, but not about any other coach or team. Coach Saban is only worried his coaches and his team. His focus is unbelievable, which is why nobody will ever replicate his success.

I think Tennessee and Auburn fans are jealous because they know that their full potential is nowhere close to UGA's full potential. I think LSU fans fear that is the truth for their program as well. If Kirby really gets thing thing going, you guys are all fricked.

Oh how glorious it'll be 5 years from now when the national championship drought is still alive and well and a tad over 40 years old.
Posted on 2/12/18 at 8:57 am to ZeusStamos
The teams could look similar to the FSU teams of the 90s under Bowden just due to the similarity of the talent pool. They wouldn’t have the 90s ACC to run roughshod over, but UGA could be consistently nationally competitive for a decade or so if they get it right.

Before 2010 y'all hadn't won a national championship in over 50 years. The only reason you did win in 2010 is because you gave Cecil Newton 200k. That's what Auburn is as a program. You have to take convicted felons and other kids that were kicked out of better programs in order to be successful. Y'all are the power 5 version of last chance U.

Are you kidding me? I thought it was only $180k. I'd better send an email to my bagman.

Cry. The NCAA disagrees.

Honestly I could see UGA being the premiere school in the country for a decade. They have the resources and talent to do just that
