If the Big 12 collapses I think Texas and Oklahoma end up in the PAC. Somehow I believe Kansas ends up with them.
With no interest in adding another Texas school (and with none of the remaining ones bringing anything to the table), and with West Virginia rejected the last time, it would probably end up being Oklahoma State and Kansas State.
If the ACC collapses the OP's picks (NC State and VT) are the most likely.

One you have not mentioned is in the process of collapse.....the Big East. I think the SEC could get two teams from there. It's an area rich with television markets and high populations. The Big East is ripe for the picking.
Take your pick, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Louisville. Any of these schools would also add to the strength of the SEC's basketball resume.

There was a post recently that showed the top 100 US universities in terms of research $$$.
VT was #41 (which in the SEC would put them ahead of everyone but A&M, Florida, and Vandy). UVA (the supposedly more prestigious AAU member) was #72.

Cuse has already signed on the line which is dotted to move to the acc, and has less football interest in its own state than Miami of Ohio. And it's in Canada.
OU isn't going anywhere texas doesn't go. They pretty much proved that this last time around. Don't want them in the conference, or their state of 3m people. That would put Mississippi as the only smaller state/market in the conference (at 2.8 IIRC).
UNC and VT would be the best picks.

But UNC has tied themselves to Duke so they won't be coming.
I can understand OU and OSU staying together, they are both public universities and the only two in a small state.
But why UNC insists on staying with a private school is puzzling.

I'd love to have OU, but I've always felt like (and please correct me if I'm wrong) the likelihood of us pulling Oklahoma away from OSU and Tejas was next to zero. A&M wanted out badly enough to leave the history behind - albeit with some different history taking its place in LSU and Arky, and I just don't see the SEC being a big enough draw to potentially leave the Red River Shootout and Bedlam behind.

Add Oklahoma in the west without Oklahoma State.
Add North Carolina in the east without Duke
I know everybody says this will happen but much has happened since 2010 and in the game of musical chairs and we have proof that when push comes to shove the state flagship will protect its best interest.
Oklahoma is a top brand which extends beyond their home state
North Carolina is a top brand which extends beyond their home state.
Oklahoma has football and other National Championship sports to provide content in the off season
North Carolina has basketball and other National Championship sports to provide content in the off season
The problem with these schools - no overlap and SEC already has #1 or #2 in market
Clemson - South Carolina is already #1
Florida State - Florida is already #1
Georgia Tech - Georgia is already #1
Louisville - Kentucky is already #1
Duke - North Carolina add would be #1
Oklahoma State - Oklahoma add would be #1
Texas - TAMU will be #1 in 20 years
The problem with these schools - private schools with no proven long term ability
Duke - who knows beyond Coach K and terrible other sports (especially football)
Miami - wins built in the 80's when the cocaine cowboys ruled south Florida
Notre Dame - looks good on paper but cultural clash
The problem with these schools - public schools with no proven long term ability
Virginia Tech - Beamer is failing and future uncertain, also terrible in all other sports
NC State - With UNC already in they would be #2 and overkill
Virginia - good as a backup but OU and UNC as a pair is more valuable

Iowa left Iowa State behind when they went to the B1G
Texas A&M left Texas behind when they went to the SEC
Nebraska left Oklahoma behind when they jumped to the B1G

For all those saying we will add 2 from a new state, add another from an existing state, or will not take (insert name here) without (insert name of tag along team) I think you do not understand the current state of affairs in conference realignment.

VT would somewhat bring the D.C. telvision market and pretty good history. Then probabaly either FSU or Miami for the same TV market reasons and population. Personally, I'd like OU and UNC.
