Mainly for Vols fans but everyone can chime in on their thoughts. I live here in Nashville which is obviously filled with UT alumni. My best friend is a UT graduate who is extremely fed up like I have never seen. While he has learned to look at the comedic aspect of previous years, after Saturday, it has turned into anger. Depression.

I have never really been bothered by UT for obvious reasons. LSU hardly ever plays them these days, and it's usually an auto-win. The alumni tend to be extremely optimistic every pre-season, which is annoying because I feel we all see UT for what they are, a has been. Until we see it, we wont believe they are moving in the right direction. Saturday was a massive step backwards.

My buddy is convinced if the Vols lose this Saturday, attendance will drop to 50-60k for the remaining of the home games. If attendance is more, it's because away SEC fans are going to pick up cheap tickets and come enjoy an easy victory. Recruits will jump ship, transfer portal will be full of UT football players wanting out, etc.

Say what you will about Tennessee, but this football team has been irrelevant for a decade, yet Vols fans continue to show up in droves and support. Honestly, it's extremely impressive, and I am not sure many fan bases in this conference would show the support Vols fans do through this historic downward spiral. It seems as though after GSU, BYU will be the final straw for this fan base if they lose.

Is that the case? Is this the opinion of 1 Vols fan, or an entire fan base? Will Vols fans shut it down if they don't win this Saturday? Already shutting it down?

Tennessee and South Carolina are equal in terms of relevance. Fans will continue to show up for games and they'll still buy merchandise. However, they won't be talked about on the national stage until they are sacrificial lambs for national powers like Alabama.

Hell, even Arkansas, ole miss, south carolina, mizzou, and piss state have had 2 or more double digits winning seasons this decade... Vols- not so much.

All I can say is the BYU fans I work with are generally proud, but pretty pessimistic. This weekend VERY optimistic about their chances, even on the road.

i think recruiting/talent evaluation is the biggest issue right now. The WORST thing in my opinion for Tennessee right now is that Clemson and UGA are title contenders, and UT is far from it. My buddy seems to believe that UT can still recruit with best of them (everyone in the SEC will get some highly coveted recruits), but getting them on a consistent basis, building depth, etc. will never happen while Clemson and UGA continue to dominate. Throw in Alabama, and Tennessee Geographically is sitting in an impossibly territory in my opinion.

I wont be watching the game for obvious reasons, but anxious to see how the team comes out. Flat and unmotivated? Or play like their lives depend on it. The may be the biggest game of Pruits young head coaching career.

He's not so bad. 10 years of UT football will really humble some folks.

Honestly, if you are actually a VFL, you have to accept it and support your team regardless...

If you don't and turn on this coach, your recruiting will further go to hell and the product will become worse....

Thank Fulmer's meddling for this mess.

Apathy is at an all time high so I don’t think that the fan base will really give a shite tbh. I highly doubt I’ll watch this Saturday unless I get explosive diarrhea or something similar.

I'll probably still go but then again, I'm a sadist. Also, I bought season tickets so might as well use them.

Well, unless a visiting fan wants to pay me for them

You will know this teams character this week. If they come out angry then things arent completely broken. If they come out lethargic and dont give all they have...shits done.

Cant be in a coaches second year and look far worse or it's a sign of major trouble. Losing to Georgia State is absurd...but not being mad and fighting like a chicken with its head cut off the next week would be even worse.

Im not sure Donnie and Marie can beat Tennessee. They did not look competent in their opener and yes I realize the egg Tennessee just laid.

Which will be the worse game. Tenner BYU or Arkansas vs OM

I spent Monday and some of Tuesday listening to Knoxville sports radio, and reading the various UT forums, and I have never seen anything like it. The fans have quit, one game into the season. Its not "some" fans, its every damn one of them. This is kinda' sad, because UT was a bigtime SEC power most all of my life. The lifelong fans don't believe that they can get a decent coach to come there. The Tuscaloosa turds melted pretty bad with Dubose, but not even close to this. If BYU comes in and wins, i worry about some UT fans and what they might do

This is the state of my buddy, which is why I started the thread. Was it just him, or are his feelings reflective of the entire fan base. Vols fans have stayed true to their VFL, but recent events have put it at risk of not being true anymore.

We will see if Pruit can light a fire under them this Saturday.

Arkansas fans are the best tailgate experience I've had against the west so you're my eternal dark horse to unseat Alabama. I'm a part time pork enthusiast.

I will not be cheering for you when you come to Roger field though.

There were over 15,000 empty seats Saturday for a home opener.
