d suspect bama would take the come down much like they did after the bear left. Though i dont know how good of a fit his replacement was.
I was pretty young when Perkins replaced Bryant, but fans seemed pretty pleased with Perkins. He had a couple of really good teams, but I don't think he ever felt comfortable coaching in Bryant's shadow and left after 4 years.
Curry was a disaster, but his last team was a really good team as well. Had he not shite the bed(again) against Auburn, he would have played for a National Championship. Fans HATED him because he couldn't beat Auburn. He only lasted 3 seasons.
Plus, Bryant's last few years we had fallen already. 79 was his last championship season and he coached through the 82 season.

That sucks. I like Smart, but he's not a sure thing. I'd definitely take Jimbo Fisher over him at this point.

On a plane and cannot think of his name but believe is an Alabama alum - coach of Oregon State

I wonder what Saban's worst loss as a head coach is
45-16 is probably up there.

I was at that game
I was thinking of it but I didn't want it to mention, because I know they'd think I was flaming

The only way it's not Smart being promoted, is if Saban leaves with NCAA troubles or some other scandal.
That's certainly not the ONLY way. I imagine alabama will go out and look for the best candidate they can. And as we sit here right now, a guy who has never been a HC at any level doesn't fit that mold.

Riley. He already told us thanks, but no thanks, at least once during coaching searches a decade ago.

LSU did get Saban 45-26 in a bowl game his first season at Michigan State, so that should make up for that right?

The combined score for Nick Saban against Nebraska in 95 & 96 was 105 - 24.

Honest answer
I don't care because he won't be as good as Saban.

saban also took a few beatings while at LSU. uf laid it on him pretty good and then he ran the score up on them in 02

I really hope it isn't Smart.
Why? I don't see a large fall off if he took the reigns with his background in D. Just let the OC do his job and let his new DC run with the same battle plan that has won 3 of the last 4 NC's.
Bottom line, it's going to come down to keeping this train rolling with getting 5 star talent and coaching them up once they get here. Saban has laid down the process and Smart seems well, to smart, to frick that up.

Don't kid yourself here....KS is a good coach but Bama would take a huge step back (over time) with KS at the helm.
I don't think Bama takes that risk
