Bama losing their S&C coach would be a bigger blow than losing Smart.
I am not going that far but it would be a blow for sure. Our guys are monsters in the weight room.

"The problem is their shady recruiting practices "

Did Bama pay a JC quarterback $180K to come play for them?

I am not blaming any of AU's troubles on Saban. I am merely pointing out that Saban himself doesn't "scare" AU because even without Saban bammer would still be buying Dodge Chargers, houses, jewelry and iPhones for their top recruits (and their families). They always have.

PHAN? Is that you? Welcome back!

Kirby would have stuck around if Saban had even hinted at retiring. Not going to happen--even if the Aubies wish really, really hard.

Yea, clearly Alabama fans are the ones who were wrong about the whole "Saban will never stay at Bama" debate

No kidding. I mean do they forget what EVERYONE outside of T-town was saying? "You watch, first job that opens Saban will be gone"

All that coaching turnover in 2009 cost us dearly. 72-10 record since.

2010 10-3
2011 12-1 BCS Champs
2012 13-1 SEC & BCS Champs
2013 11-2
2014 12-2 SEC Champs
2015 14-1 SEC and CFP Champs

Hopefully this year's coaching turmoil will bring as much chaos as 2009 did

So you're saying you had as much change in 2009 as you might this year? Who all did Bama have to replace in 2009?

This year:
D Coord - Smart hired by UGA
S&C Coach - Scott Cochran going with Smart
Player Development - Glen Schumann likely going with Smart
O Coord - Lane Kiffin (highly likely)
WR Coach - Billy Napier (possible to go to UGA)

Those are names being reported. Could be others.

While I get it that Nick Saban runs that program top to bottom, there is still the matter of chemistry and how folks work with each other.

We have a lot of turnover every year or 2. He plans for it and develops coaches from support staff and makes a big outside hire when needed. He's tough to work for but he's fair. Work hard and do your job and you're on the way to great things (like McElwain and Smart).

He's never lost two coordinators in the same year in his career. He did not plan for that. I don't doubt he'll figure out a way to make it work, but it's not some "eh, bno big deal" situation for him.

He's not hanging up the whistle anytime soon unless some outside circumstance happens (health, etc). He hates the thought of not coaching. That's literally the only thing he's done since graduating college.

that's literally all most head coaches have done after college. it wouldn't shock me in the least if he hung it up if Alabama wins another NC this year. And if he doesn't, he's not going to coach more than a few years. It's a stressful job. Saban has nothing left to prove and he'll be pushing 70 in a few years.

Yeah, we tend to forget the hires before Saban...

When Saban retires/leaves (and I hope it's still a few years down the road), while I think it'd be a top job, if I was a top coach, I don't know if I'd want to be the one to follow him...talk 'bout expectations...I think I'd want to be the one to follow the guy after Saban...

There were better coaching options to bolt for in the college game and the NFL

eh, what jobs were better than the Colts job more than likely being open at the end of this year? you're talking about a team with a pro bowl QB to work with, something he was never given in Miami. I think Saban retires at Alabama, but I don't agree he had better options in 2009.
