This is a good point. There are only a handful of college football players each year that will be able to market themselves alone without the school brand going along with it. Maybe at the local level but those places aren’t going to have the capital to shell out hundreds of thousands of dollars to athletes for advertising. I think you’ll see players maybe in commercials for small local businesses for a few grand. Maybe players like Burrow and Tua would maybe get national marketing deals but the vast majority aren’t marketable enough on their own. I think the biggest change will be shoe companies signing players to deals in college for basketball

I don’t see larger markets getting a bigger advantage tbh. Places like New York and LA are far more worried about other things than college sports. Places where a college team is the only school or team to cheer for would benefit the most I’d imagine. A team say like Indiana is much more likely to have a booster do all they can to start winning again rather than a place like UCLA imo

Isn't there supposed to be a cap on what they can earn?

This is as much about media access as anything. The LA area has a large media market and with the money being equal...I think the TV markets in large areas are a bigger draw for a kid deciding which school to attend. So. Cal. and UCLA are already high profile enough, but add that those kids can grab a bit of the media attention and it's a swing their way...Those kids aren't getting national media coverage at schools in rural areas....It's the 15 minute of fame that a 17 year old will see as much, if not more, than the money.

The perspective I come from I suppose is that the more diehard fanbases will have boosters play a huge factor. Also the schools in low market areas will be the most marketable brand in that area. Places like LA have so much going on, sure college athletes would be used, but people are still gonna go after pro athletes from all the teams, actors, etc to use for advertisements.

Arkansas because Wal mart will start throwing advertisement money around.

The Walton family has stepped back from supporting sports. Which is a shame. They do pump a lot of money into academics and in area development though.

Now we still have quite a bit of money backing our sports, but the problem is that they aren't really the best judge of who to hire. For instance big money donors lined up behind Chad Morris and railroaded him into being hired.

What kind of involvement (if any) do Jerruh Jones and other famous FB alums (Jimmy Johnson, Barry Switzer, etc.) have in decision making?

I am going to go with large market schools...So. Cal...UCLA will be at the top but other large market areas will also benefit. If they are allowed to do endorse dealerships and things of that nature...the big money will come from the larger markets....I think states with only one power 5 school should be OK...but in states with more than one power 5 or power 5's in rural areas will feel the blunt of the 5 star exodus to larger markets....those kids will follow the money. I could be wrong but it seems reasonable...

You really don't think they'll be getting what they actually bring in revenue wise right?

This is just a way for them to pay players to come to schools.

Booster types who have the money for that stuff also typically have businesses. Just promise a kid X amount of endorsement deals for your business, and boom you just bought yourself a player.

Hell, just put up an open thing for all players who sign with school will get X amount of dollars for endorsement deals from your business.

I don’t think any of the three really give a shite. Jerry is running the Cowboys, Jimmy just wants to fish, and Barry is more Sooner than Razorback.

Jerry Jones, by all accounts, was the man behind getting Chad hired.

Our famous football alumni are far from our bankroll alumni other than Jones. For a low population state we have more than our share of Fortune 500 or close to it companies. Yes, I know, we are also a fairly poor state all things considered outside of NW Arkansas.

The people who have money in Arkansas have a lot of it.

The big money boosters pretty well forced our last AD and Bert out. They whiffed on their first choice of head coach in Malzahn and with Jones trumpeting the greatness of Chad Morris they ramrodded him through. Our interim AD supposedly wanted Kiffin but given that she was fighting off the biggest booster revolt in Arkansas history for a hundred years went along.

In a way having crashed and burned so badly with Chad it has freed the hand of our current AD.

What stops Nick Saban, Kirby Smart, or Ed O from getting a booster to give a Local Business $500,000 to give to a player to do a commercial for them if they come to said school?

Or the coach himself to funnel the money with his massive pay

You have to think that Oregon and their Nike "connections / open checkbook" are about to crush it in most college sports
