re: If OU had been in the SEC when Baker played, which SEC fanbase would have killed him first

Strange fact about that Tech QB room in 2013.
Unappreciated walkon and future Heisman winner Baker Mayfield replaces injured starter Michael Brewer
Mayfield gets hurt and is replaced by Davis Webb, who would eventually be selected in the 3rd round by the New York Giants.
He played mostly at Cal, however, as he was beat out later by Patrick Mahomes.
Three NFL QBs and somehow the greatest of them gets the job, all while Kliff Kingsbury puts up a terrible record.

You know damn well there's only a couple top heavy teams that could have hit like that Georgia team. Outside of that, Baker would have literally scorched earth through the rest of the SEC.
This is where you're wrong.
The biggest difference between the SEC and other conferences on the defensive side of the ball are the number of teams with NFL front 7 talent.
SEC DL and LB drafted in 2018-2021 (those who might have been playing in 2017)
Alabama - 13
LSU - 8
Florida - 6
UGA - 6
MSU - 6
Auburn - 5
A&M - 5
Arkansas - 4
UK - 4
SC - 4
Mizzou - 3
Ole Miss - 2
Tennessee - 2
Vandy - 2
Texas and OU are by far the most talented teams in the big 12 at that time. What did they produce?
Texas - 4
OU - 3
Mid to low tier SEC numbers in the front 7,
Other than those two schools the Big 12 produced just 21 front 7 draft picks in those 4 seasons.... or 2.8 per team with Texas and OU compared to 4.7 per team in the SEC.
That just measures the top end players across the front 7 you face in the SEC. It doesn't measure those guys who were good college players but not NFL draft picks. For example from the 2017 starting UGA front 7 you had guys like John Adkins (undrafted, 4 years in the NFL), Johnathan Ledbetter (undrafted, 5 years in the NFL), Reggie Carter (undrafted, good college player) and Davin Bellamy (undrafted, great college player, hung around in NFL for 5 seasons)
You literally had 10 out of 14 SEC teams with front 7 draft picks equal to or more than Texas in that 4 year stretch following the 2017 season. It's not a top heavy thing at all. It's simply better defensive fronts from nearly everyone.
Not Vandy, but even they had some NFL quality front 7 guys.

It was NOT the UGA defense that anything to do with that game. UGA won because the OU defense could not stop ANY runs.
In fact, UGA gave up a defensive TD to that awful OU defense.
Had the first year, sissie head coach, Riley, let Mayfield pass from his own 45 with a 7 point lead and under 6 minutes to play rather than run 3 times into a stacked line for 5 yards and punt, Mayfield could have made the first down that ran clock and perhaps close enough for a FG.

Are DL/LB guys the ONLY ones that matter? How many top NFL OFFENSIVE lineman have come from OU?
Trent Williams
Lane Johnson
Creed Humphrey
are SOME from OU and all are top ten in the whole NFL.

Baker was great, walked on at TTU and ended up starting, then he was pushed aside by coach. Baker walked on an Oklahoma , had to sit a year, then started, then won the Heisman. He took Cleveland from being a team with something like 1 win a season to the playoffs, then pushed aside by the coach, then showed up in LA on a Wednesday and won the game on Saturday, then landed at Tampa won the starting job and took the team to the playoffs…..
Baker is the ultimate winner….

I think he landed Tue for a Thu game. Was amazing what he did. Took them 99 yards to win game. Had no real practice with players only a walkthru.
