Would have been fun if the SEC had taken Florida State and Miami instead of Arkansas and South Carolina. Could you imagine this as a division back then -
Division 1 -
Alabama
Auburn
Georgia
Florida
Florida State
Miami
Division 2 -
Tennessee
Vanderbilt
Kentucky
Ole Miss
Mississippi State
LSU
Division 1 would have been brutal, but fun to watch.

But that depends on how they broke it up (B6 teams would be......).

These are ridiculous, fanciful scenarios.
I cringe to even imagine what the SEC might have been like without the True Sons of Mizzou.

Techies are just as bad or worse. That place is a sewer of virtue signalling and social "justice."

Hey what was Nebraska ranked?

Tulane wouldn’t have that ‘98 national championship if they hadn’t left the SEC.
If UCF can claim ‘17, Tulane can claim ‘98.
Whatever happened to Tommy Bowden? He seemed to be on the way to the top back in the late ‘90’s.
Crazy that Tulane had a Bowden (when they were respected as coaches) as HC and Rich Rod as OC in the same season.
I’d have loved to have seen that team play some P5 teams.

Nebraska was #19 and had 2 losses as the runner up in the Big 8. That is what was so bad about the bowl arrangements back then, there weren’t many options as opponents for conference champions. Schools like Florida State, Miami, Penn St, etc were all independents and were more flexible with their bowl games. A conference champion would either be matched with the highest ranked independent or runner up from another conference. At the end of the 1990 season every team had at least two losses except Georgia Tech 11-0-1 and Colorado 11-1-1
As a side note, BYU won their national championship after defeating a 6-5 Michigan in the Holiday Bowl, which was the WAC champion destination.
