along with winning the regular season title (going away,) in my mind that is MORE impressive than winning the NCAA tournament. Honestly, it's not even close this year with how stacked this conference is.

This is men's basketball we are discussing.

As an Auburn fan I' don't care at all about SEC tournament. There's a debate if we we tank it right now on the Auburn page

I would rather rest the team and focus on the Big Dance.
One thing that concerns me is that there could be some dangerous teams on the 8/9 seed line this year. Teams like UConn, Gonzaga, Illinois, Baylor, etc. that have talent and were ranked pre-season but stumbled in the grind.

It's an interesting debate, but I think a conference tourny title this year should be highly valued and celebrated. It's every team's right to mail it in and get ready for the NCAAs, but there's a lot of pride that will come with winning the conference tournament this year.
Also, tanking games is a bad habit to start. I can see sitting guys with injury issues, but not flat-out tanking a game just to go home.

wrong however, Auburn is positioning themselves to claim greatest season ever if they win the whole thing

But if "positioning" means tanking an SEC tourny game, I don't believe that to be an effective approach. I know you guys have a fresh memory of a conference tourny crown being followed by an early NCAA exit, but I'm not convinced one happened because of the other.

I care about the postseason. If Bruce doesnt rest Broome during the conference tournament he is playing with fire.I dont care about greatest ever claims as much.

Auburn might have a strong enough team that “tanking” wouldn’t work anyway. I’m not even sure what tanking would look like.

yeah but in NCAA tourney you are playing teams you don't have a lot of familiarity with
that's why it's so unpredictable

That thought process people are using is BS. Also, AU went on a tear in 2019 after finishing the regular season 22-9 and won the SECT, then spingboarded that to get to a FF beating 3 of the bluest blue bloods.

Last year Auburn dominated all three games in the SEC Tournament to take the title… then we abruptly lost to Yale 4 days later and the season was over.
I think with a conference regular season title locked up and a #1 overall seed secured, most Auburn fans will be hoping to see only bench players playing in the SEC Tournament.

If Pearl sits Broome, I don't think that's tanking. How does the rest of the team respond to Broome sitting out, if that happens?
If Auburn is still competitive to the point that it takes some other team's A-game to beat them, while Broome is sitting, I'd be very excited if I'm Auburn going in to NCAAs.
If he sits and they get beat by a team like SCAR or LSU, or get shitkicked by (name a stud SEC team) then it might not be a good sign for the NCAAs.

Do you remember what happened before we played those three blue bloods? We lost gas and beat New Mexico State thanks to lady luck.

An SEC tournament championship is big medicine this year, that's all I'm saying. I'd hate to see it watered down because some teams are "waiting" for the NCAAs.

The selection committee watered it down
Since 2019 was brought up. Auburn was projected a 5 seed entering the conference tournament, won the tournament, and not only did it stay a 5 seed, it shipped them to higher altitude in Utah which also helped them run out of gas.
The tournament is only going to help the bubble teams like Arkansas but even then it may not help much. Didnt Buzz Williams make it to the semifinals and still get left out?

I love winning the SEC Tourney, and I think it’s a great season accomplishment pretty close to the season long SEC champ, but they aren’t equal.
I think Auburn fans expecting a tank are going to be disappointed. This team is going to find the next reason to keep winning.

That's what good teams do. I agree. These dudes are competitors. They ain't gonna tank anything, but if Broome keeps limping around I can see Pearl sitting him.

We have a double bye so there is very little chance we will face a SC or LSU. That's kind of the point of the debate. By the time Auburn takes the court there will be nothing but ranked teams left in the final 8.
So Auburn would have to win 3 games in 3 days away from home against top ranked, aggressive competition.
What's the point of that if you have already locked up a banner and a #1 seed in the South Region? It's the same reason top NFL teams rest their starters in week 17. All risk, very little reward.
I mean if we hadn't won the SECT in 40 years or something, maybe the argument shifts. But we won it last year so who cares. This season was great but it has been a grind. I'm completely ok with tanking.
