seriously though... what big names are out there that aren't happy as they can be where they are? aka, what incentive do they have to move to Auburn to coach?

i agree, there aren't many big names out their available, but i refuse to believe chizik is the best auburn can do. i would think brian kelly and the utah coach would be at least slighty interested in the job, yet neither has been contacted. auburn is not a great job, but it is one of the better jobs in the sec. i would think their ad could do better than this.

I think the exact opposite happened

JDR came into town, but then realized his manager hadn't told the Jags that he was interviewing.(You technically don't have to but its courtesy) JDR got pissed off at his agent and postponed the interview. Bertman freaked out thinking that JDR might be playing him for a raise and canceled the second interview.

yeah, chizik is clearly underachieving for the Auburn admin. Gill is SO clearly a much better hire, that IF Auburn goes with Chizik, i'm not sure exactly what it means, but it would speak VOLUMES about either ....

A: their decision making ability
B: ability to create synergy as a team and get the right guy
C: that they are waiting for a bigger named coach and just hiring a fallboy that already knows the ropes at Auburn

I'm not willing to give jacobs the benefit of the doubt for choice C. it seems like that entire athletic department is a clusterfrick. of course i was saying the same thing about mal moore this time two years ago. maybe jay has something up his sleeve just like mal did.

Mal just got incredibly lucky. He didn't have a damn thing up his sleeve.

nah i think mal knew he had to wait for the end of the nfl season to get saban. he sat and let people talk shite about him and made his move when the time was right. maybe jacobs is in the same boat.

weren't he and Saban in touch as early as October of '06? at least that's when Sexton put out his feelers for Nick. Wasn't R. Rodriguez just a smokescreen?

About Mal Moore, I read a quote by him saying when he got on the plane to go try to hire Saban, he pretty much said this is it, if I do not come back with I'm in huge trouble.

I think Moore just got very very lucky and hit a home run when he was on the verge of massive failure. I am starting to think Jacobs only knows massive failure and may acheive it.

I've always thought that quote to be just a made up quote to cover up the amount of time he and Nick were coresponding. If October of '06 is the real contact date and he doesn't cover that up with that little comment the hire would have been blasted even more than it was. In October of that year Saban still had half a season to coach and it Shula wasn't finished giving Bama reason to fire him. That's bad PR and shady on all counts. There weren't any other jobs that Nick would've taken at the time, imo, and he said he already knew at that point that the NFL wasn't for him. So, it makes me wonder.

CPA, come to the darkside,

Being a corndog gets you two BCS crowns in five years, each in a campaign with a home loss, even if both times it requires two major upsets later in the day after winning the SECCG, to advance..the force runs strong in BR!

What does being an Aubie do but break your heart? It leaves you with lintballs to show for two unbeaten seasons over the last 16 years. It leaves you the redheaded stepchild in Alabama, despite winning 6 of the last 7 vs the evil empire, all the while Saban gets closer to your doorstep than ever.

CPA, no, we are your daddy, come to the lucky corndog side of Tigerdom. Search your feelings, you know it to be true!

If that report it true this has to be one of the worst hires in the history of Auburn athletics.

Somebody's fast on the keyboard:

quote:

Gene Chizik (born December 28, 1961 in Clearwater, Florida) is the current head football coach at Iowa State University, and is expected to be named head football coach at Auburn University. Chizik played linebacker for the University of Florida during the 1981 season, competing in the Peach Bowl. He graduated from Florida in 1985.
