I wonder if Saban really "gets it"...

What he means to Alabama fans. I wonder if he's so "tunnel-visioned" and workaholic that it goes over his head.
It would not surprise most Alabama fans to see Saban walk across Guntersville lake.
I'm sure LSU fans loved him for what he did there in Baton Rouge, but I can't believe it would equal the love he'll get from the 'Bama Nation.
Way to go Nick. Well done.

I saw him walk across Lake Pontchatrain once. There was a ray of light surrounding him. You just had to be there.

saban's seniors were shulas boys. all you shula haters should email him and say thanks mike. yes, saban is top notch! i will however reserve judgement for 5 years. not ready to erect a monument to him. we were very lucky the cowboys won last night or jerry jones would have made that call to nicky. if the seahawks are paying 7 million per year to carroll, then what the heck do you think jerry would pay nicky if he really wanted him. lets enjoy this victory and see what he does with his own boys and how he keeps the intensity up. no place to go when #1 but down. congrats to coach for a great year!

From what I have seen with little Nicky, he could give a rat's arse about "what he means" to Bama, LSU, MSU, whatever. He cares about "The Process." And money. Period.
I don't think he cares about the legacy of Bear Bryant, Ken Stabler, the 35 MNC's that Bama claims, Billy Cannon's Halloween run, the "mystique" of Tiger Stadium, or the MSU rivalry with Michigan.
He doesn't care to gladhand with the boosters and Paul Bryant, Jr. Screw rounds of golf with sponsors, former players, or ADs and BoS members (however, he did come to the funeral of LSU Booster Richard Gill, which actually surprised me).
He doesn't really care for the fans either--LSU, Bama, or MSU. At best, he is ambiguous about the fans.
He cares about football. He cares about his family (regardless of what we rantards may say
). He cares about his players.
Back to the OP's statement, I don't think Nick will ever understand what he has done for the Gump Nation. He'll never understand what it means to be a fan of football, because it's his job.

What are you talking about he cares about his family? The guy's son is a complete frickup and he's been forgetting his wife's birthday and anniversary since he was at LSU. Sound like a great family man.

You can care about something and neglect it too
.
I know my dad cared about my mom, but I always had to remind him about her birthday!

I would name my child Terry because she is the key to Saban. It's also a name that can go both ways.

This is Nick Saban. For that reason, I believe he will go after his only failure in coaching and back to the NFL at some point.

Saban will obviously understand his celebrity with Bama fans, but he will never understand their "need" to deify him any more than Bama fans will ever understand how pompous they are.

If going both ways is important to you, consider AC/DC as a name.

Saban is a complete dick and doesn't care what Bama fans think about him.

"Forgetting his wife's Birthday" Etc
Reminds me of the story of a weeping wife saying to her husband; "You (sniff) never tell me you love me anymore"!
Husband sez " Listen I told you 25 years ago when I married you I loved you; and if I change my mind I'll let you know"!!
Saban??

Yeah, I think he gets it. We showed over 100k at the spring game for crying out loud. I expect to pack it out again this year. That something you cannot ignore.
