In January I went to Vegas and saw Blake Shelton, Styx, and Santana in 4 days. Had tix to see Neko Case the day after I got back from that trip, but I skipped it because I was tired, it was cold, roads were icy, and I’m old.

I don’t believe those numbers at all. Serious book cooking.

OG Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Tami Barber Has Died
Posted by LuckySo-n-So on 4/21/26 at 12:18 pm
She had been fighting ovarian cancer. She was 68.
She was the tiny blonde haired pigtailed dynamo that was part of the team when they became world famous. She appeared in a couple movies about the cheerleaders, an episode of The Love Boat, and a few other shows when the Dallas Cheerleaders were at the height of their popularity.
She was always my favorite. My 10-year-old self felt funny things when she appeared on tv.
Couldn’t find a proper news article about it, but it’s all over the Dallas fan sites.

ER when Carter and Lily got attacked and stabbed. Real gut wrenching.
—er S1E19 Love’s Labor Lost: Dr. Greene deals with a case of pre-eclampsia that goes south. (The Pitt paid homage to this episode in S2 Finale)
—The Unforgotten S4E6: DCI Cassie Stuart (Nicola Walker) Dies following a car crash in previous episode. I was absolutely gutted. Nicola Walker was the heart of the show and probably the best Actress you’ve never heard of. (This is a British TV show)
—er S15E1 Dr Pratt (Mekhi Phifer)succumbs to his injuries from an explosion in S14 finale. He had become the heart of the ER at Cook County General. I was crying like a little bitch.

I just stayed at the Hampton Inn in Mesquite, TX. It’s a fine hotel with a free breakfast (not that great TBH, but for kids it will do. I’m sure it’s a short drive to your arena.
I had a double king suite for under $300 for two nights. Had a fridge,, kitchen sink, microwave, pullout couch in the living room.
I was really impressed.
ETA: just checked and a two double bed suite is $167/nt. for your dates(plus taxes/fees of course).

I haven’t been there in 15 years, but the best advice is to get off of the main tourist routes. Get lost. Explore neighborhoods where locals live and work. A lady and I were out taking photos and ended up in a small piazza with nothing but locals: people shopping, walking dogs, kids playing, etc. it was absolutely charming. There was a little trattoria where we had a glass or two of wine and some pasta and people watched. It was my best night in Venice.
TL;dr: Get off the beaten path. It’s an island. You can’t get that lost.

I second Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese.
Also, The Mayflower in Rotherhithe is worth visiting. They have a great Sunday Roast. Almost exclusively frequented by locals.
*ETA: Why is it called “The Mayflower?” Because THE Mayflower—you know, the one with the Pilgrims—used to dock right where the pub is.

Man, I almost couldn’t watch it. I was having severe er/Dr. Greene flashbacks. That er episode is one of the most tense and well done episodes of TV I’ve ever watched. I’m sure putting this in the finale was on purpose and in service to those of us that remember that episode of er. Letting us have a good outcome so we can come full circle and move on with our lives.
Also, has it been discussed that Digby is Skinny Pete from Breaking Bad?

Seriously though, some of my best memories are visiting my grandmother in Jeanerette in the 70s.
My old man was from there. Dude was never really sick. When he was 79, I was telling someone that the reason he was never sick was that he grew up swimming in Bayou Teche. Literally the next fricking day he was diagnosed with pancake cancer and was dead less than 90 days later.
Lejeune’s bread is worth the drive.

The town doctor is a black dude, so there ya go. Because if there was one thing the 1800's frontier had a lot of, it was highly educated black people practicing medicine and a bunch of really enthusiastic customers lined up to see them.
This was explored in the original series. Doc Baker hired a black doctor, trained as a surgeon, to help him. Of course, only Charles was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. The rest of the town shunned the new doc. Charles had to knock out an expectant father so the black surgeon could save the day and deliver his wife’s baby by c-section.
It was one of my favorite episodes.
If Charles is not the moral compass of this show, it will be stupid. I., for one will probably not watch. There’s no need for this show.

I’ve passed 4 or 5 stones. None were bigger than 2mm.
Every single one had me on the floor in the fetal position for hours.
Good luck.

I hope this tournament is a complete fricking disaster, from ticket sales, to half empty stadiums, to travel, to logistics, to teams and players not being allowed into the country. I’m rooting for complete and utter chaos.
Madame Butterfly @ Baton Rouge River Center 4/11/26
Posted by LuckySo-n-So on 4/12/26 at 8:55 am
While you bogans were at home watching Hee Haw reruns and “golf,” I decided to take in Opera Louisiane’s one off production of Puccini’s Madame Butterfly.
I have to say that I was very surprised at the quality of the production. The set was beautiful. The lighting and stage craft were really well done. Did I think I was at The Met, or Vienna? No. But for Baton Rouge, it was quite charming. Most of the talent was brought in from other regional operas. The singing was very polished and professional.
The standouts were soprano Teresa Perotta as Cio Cio San/Madame Butterfly and mezzo-soprano Hilary Ginther as house servant Suzuki. Perotta’s vocals were soaring and nuanced. Not once did I hear a missed note. She is truly a star in the making. Her acting was top notch as well. Gunther, as Suzuki, was the standout, in my opinion. Her exquisite timbre and emotional display just stole the show. She got the largest round of applause during the curtain call, which was well deserved.
Once again, a wonderful production of Madame Butterfly. Not a single redneck or Cajun accent to be heard.
Teresa Perotta
Hilary Ginther
*One complaint is that the orchestra left a lot to be desired. Lots of clunky notes, especially the clarinets.

Man, I used to be really into it. I was known on the rant for my game photos. Starting about 2009, I collected about $15k in DSLR gear.
I hardly touch it anymore. Everything now is about mirrorless, not DSLR. Look into the Nikon Z series, or the Canon and Sony equivalents. I think Sony is regarded as one of the best.
The best thing you can do is physically hold a camera in your hand and see how it feels. That’s what sold me on Nikon. However…where the frick can you go to a store and hold a camera anymore?
Good luck. It’s a fun hobby.
