Texas A&M should have applied for an Associated Press trophy since that was the selector of the time that named them champion. It wasn’t until the late forties that a trophy was awarded.
I can’t ride the Aggies much on this though since Oklahoma somehow applied and received an AFCA crystal football for 1974 despite being ineligible for the UPI title. They did win the AP. At the time, the AP trophy was a plaque that could be hung up on a wall.

Yeah I was looking up the AP trophy history on Wiki and was surprised that they never made individual trophies until the 1990 season.
1936-1940: no trophy.
1941-1947: traveling trophy #1 permanently kept by ND
1948-1956: traveling trophy #2 permanently kept by OU
1957-1965: traveling trophy #3 permanently kept by Bama
1966-1977: traveling trophy #4 permanently kept by ND
1978-1989: traveling trophy #4 permanently kept by Miami

When Florida and A&M have met on the field, you have walked away the loser more often than not.
