It really isn't though. Jackson is a pure shithole. It is hard to find a gas station you feel comfortable pulling into after dark.
Jackson to Memphis along I-55 is one of the worst areas in the nation.

I’m always flabbergasted at how full of themselves AU fans are. Y’all field a good football team once a decade, and a good basketball team once every 30 years, and you prance around like the queens of the SEC.

I don’t care much about Auburn good or bad.
Butch Thompson is a heck of a good baseball coach and he is of Mississippi State stock so I give you credit for recognizing a good coach and hiring him.
It was always amusing that it was Shug Jordan whining and crying to the SEC in 1974 about the cowbells and it was he who was responsible for getting Conference to ban them in the spring of 1975.
It seems that during the game in 1974 in Jackson, Auburn had a comfortable 24-0 lead in the fourth quarter when State mounted a comeback and the cowbells were so loud, the Auburn players could not hear the QB signals and had numerous false starts/delay of game penalties. Auburn did hold on to win 24-20 though.
After the game , Jordan was so mad about the cowbells that he must have forgot that Auburn still won the game.
During that era, (1960’s- early 1970’s) State mostly had losing seasons and nobody had a problem or complained about the cowbells. Then in 1974 when we were 9-3 all the sudden it was the cowbells fault that the other teams lost to State. It did not have anything to do with State having a better team and winning the games . It was the cowbells that caused them to lose.
Right? Those cowbells sure blocked hard on the LOS, ran hard with the football, kicked FG’s, caught passes and scored touchdowns.
Yeah Right on.

Nowhere near the worst. Not even in Mississippi. South Mississippi is the worst of Mississippi. I55 to Memphis there is barely anything? Actually a nice drive.
