The icing was what caused it and maybe it was knee jerk. But people up here drive like morons and it snows and ices a lot but they never change. So buffoonery has to be kept in check. That said, The Dude was able to cautiously and soberly(at the time) restock on White Russian supplies but I have a pretty good snow vehicle and I tested and there’s still a lot of ice. Lot of work got done today on the roads. No idea why the university is being pansy though - when I went they were the only place that didn’t close. Never would they totally close for this and never would they not answer regarding ticket sales.

I've never been impressed with Fayetteville's preparation/reaction to winter weather. That ice storm that hit when I lived there shut down the entire city for like a week. You could have literally ice skated on the roads and I lived like two blocks from Dickson. I wish I still had the pictures.

Lived here my whole life and also lived two blocks from Dickson when it happened. That said, that storm was crazy. There were high transmission lines down, 150-foot trees split in half and the city became an ice bowl. The level of organization was lacking though. I know for a fact that at least one other city in NWA had all employees out there who could be there(properly equipped, fed well, overtime, etc. - but they showed up and were cutting branches so that lines could be put up and have things running quicker). Fayetteville became the snow village from hell. Thank God we had friends with a condo in the Dickson and it was on the grid and we could shower and wash our clothes there.

Fair enough. But wasn’t really calling you out. Like I said, in my day, this didn’t happen. The times have changed for the gheyer.

January 2009 ice storm was horrendous - I witnessed 18 wheelers pulling down utility polls because they hit low hanging electrical wires
Feb 2011 3-feet of snow, no exaggeration - and the Tyson indoor track meet on campus was still a go, UCLA and Florida and everyone in between flying in for the meet
Now in 2023 the communist mayor and communist city council SHUT IT DOWN over 5/8 inch of powder snow and zero ice, to save money so they can house more homeless people in vacant lots around town
