Busy was an isolated player involved with an isolated booster.
What made it worse for SC was a similar case with Mayo in basketball at the same time.
What made it worse for USC is that the NCAA came at them with the pre-determined intention of dicking them. It's widely argued that they overstepped their bounds... which they did again for Penn State. Making a statement with those cases backfired for the NCAA, so it'll be interesting to see how they handle it, especially with the Baylor sitch.

And don't forget the Tunsil stuff still out there........especially if the NCAA ask them "is this everything", only to find out the were trying to hide the payments from the asst. AD.

I'm so happy! I hate Ole Miss so much.

We're playing it like we're innocent. NCAA catches us in that lie, then you won't have to worry about Ole Miss beating Bama for another decade or so.

You realize sc was a given a tv ban a few years before smu got the death penalty?
SMUs initial punishment wasn't that bad initially, they made it worse and forced the ncaas hand when they continued to pay for play.
OM biggest problem right now is the amount of infractions by me where if the institution that can lead to the ncaas conclusion it was an organized effort allowed by the school across multiple sports, shite like that is when the ncaa is looking to dick someone...

Ole Miss hasn't fired Barney Farrar, which means they're confident they won't get caught. If they get caught lying to the NCAA to go along with this investigation, then the penalties will be so severe it's not even worth discussing them.
Barney is claiming he didn't give any money to Tunsil. It's not a violation for a player to ask for money they do it all the time. It's a violation to give him the money he asks for.
Tunsil is probably through cooperating at this point. If Ole Miss can't prove there was money and the NCAA can't prove there was money then there was no violation. So they may be completely in the clear on that.
The only real issue here with money actually changing hands was the $800 package that Tunsil's step dad is claiming he received from "individual 7" at the airport. Individual 7 claims he doesn't remember texting anything about a "package" to the step dad.
The step dad produced the text messages and then went and bought a wal-mart gift card with the money to have paper proof of money he received that day. This was a setup from the very beginning by the step father who probably meant to blackmail Ole Miss or at least that booster.
This is how the NCAA works, they don't really go find anything. It has to come to them and with Tunsil's dad it came to them. If they don't have anything like that on Barney then the violation never happened.
I'll be surprised if anything can be proven on this but the NCAA can use reasonable suspicion if they choose to based on the conversation itself.

Penalties are already on. Look at your current recruiting class.
Posted on 5/29/16 at 3:55 pm to inelishaitrust
What do you think the penalties will be?
Some schollies, administrative stuff, may have to fire some staff and dissociate some boosters.
What do you hope the penalties will be?
My hope is not built on Ole Miss penalties. Football is entertainment, a distraction. No more, no less. I hope NCAA is eventually shuttered and we can move forward with more openness regarding pay for players in revenue producing sports.

No post season ban
Restrictions on recruiting visits
22 scholarships over 4 years

Poor choice of words to suggest no "plan" was in place for money to change hands.

Shows how much of a shite sports fan you are. As much as I want lousiana to get natural disasters and aids. I never would want to destroy an entire city. frick you man. frick you.

What a dumbass!
Do you honestly think I'd wish for the entire city to burn? I was meaning Ole Miss. If there was no Ole Miss there'd be no Oxford.
Posted on 5/29/16 at 4:35 pm to KTownRebel
AU does that type bs all the time.

Wrong. Most locals of Oxford hate Ole Miss. They hate the students, they hate the traffic, they hate the noise.
Sure, Ole Miss benefits the town of Oxford but believe me, locals would not be opposed to Ole Miss moving to Batesville.
By the way, if you've never been to Oxford outside of a sporting event, you should really check it out. It's a great community and a great place for young families with kids.

I think the NCAA will balk at the self imposed sanctions and just about double them. I'll go with 20-24 scholarships over 4 years, and a 1 or 2 year post season ban. I could see a multi-year show cause for the two main assistant coaches involved, but not Freeze, and a 5-8 year probation for the athletic department. I think a couple of the higher-ups in the athletic department will be let go, and the named boosters disassociated for longer than the self imposed periods imply. I don't think it'll be quite the death penalty that some are hoping for, but they'll make an example of OM to show other programs that it's not worth it to cheat. It'll set OM back about 6-8 years into the dark ages.
How's that for an unbiased take? Seems like OM was better off against us in their cellar dweller years anyway.
