In all of CFB, only LSU and Alabama, and maybe, maybe Florida have a defense that could stop Oregon's offense. Stanford and OSU may slow it down.
This year though, Oregon finally has a quarterback that doesnt go down the first time he gets breathed on.

Oregon would beat LSU

Are you saying 2012 LSU = 2011 LSU?

Mariota is a big, big kid. Masoli was big too, but 2009 Oregon didn't have the overall talent that 2012 Oregon does. I'm not a big fan if the spread, but it works for them in their conference. They'll be in the Rose Bowl frequently as long as Kelly is there running that offense. I think the playoff will be a huge benefit for them because the layoff won't be as long going into the national title game. Like I said before, if they stay good, eventually they'll get the breaks and the right matchup to win a national title

We would run at will, and stop them often.

It is pretty well documented and common sense that a team built on defensive power will win against a team built on offensive power. It may not be flashy, but it is effective.
A powerful offense can score points, but it cannot prevent the other team from scoring. (See West Virginia last week)
A powerful defense can stop the other team from scoring AND score points itself. Turnovers turn into points.
When two teams with powerful defenses meet, it can be slow and ugly, but it is sound logic and a proven strategy.

So then why did Petrino do well in the SEC?
It's not always true that a defensive team will beat an offensive team. If that were the case we would've been in the shitter the past 4 years, yet we were one of the best teams the past 2 years.

Maybe
But I do think that Oregon is about equal or possibly better than they were last year

How many times did Petrino win the SEC West? When was Arkansas ever higher than 3rd place in the west?
Who was first and second most of that time? Ohhh yeah, Alabama and LSU. Defensive teams.
What have most Arkansas fans I have ever listened to complained about? Arkansas's dismal defense.

Doesn't matter. He still had a lot of success given the amount of time he had

2010?

LSU was bad in 2008 and 2009 (we were too though), and we beat them in 2010
Bama has been awesome since 2008, but then again they have the best coach in the country
By the way, I'd say that Florida's offense was better in 06 and 08 than their defense

Well no shite. What's your point?
Posted on 10/18/12 at 11:15 pm to Gladius Veritas
My point, which you have yet to disprove, is that defense is superior to offense. As long as both teams have similar athletes and coaching, the defensive team will win 8-10 times.
It doesn't matter that Florida's offense was better than their defense, because their defense wasn't bad either. You cannot win with a bad defense...Not against a real team.
"Offense sells tickets. Defense wins ball games."

I'll have to disagree with that. Defense saved them against USCe, LSU and Tennessee that year and then held Ohio State to 82 yards of offense. I don't care that it was OSU, that's incredible. Their QB won the Heisman and they had a first round draft pick at WR and RB.

1992, War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. I was there for Arkansas' first SEC show down with Bama. Arkansas has been getting their arse kicked ever since. In 20 years Arkansas has beaten Bama a total of 7 times. Guess where most of them came from? 3 during the Mike Shula years..

Well we all saw the greatest offense ever in football play on the national championship, and score only 14 points. Anyone remember what happened to Sam Bradford against Florida?
Same think could happen this year with Oregon. We shall see.

not sure about Oregon State, but Stanford won't slow down Oregon. That's a really bad matchup for Stanford.
The thing about the SEC defenses is they are usually big enough to blow up the middle and fast enough to run down the outside stuff. PAC 12 defenses are not as complete as the top SEC defenses.
I think a good guage as to how well Oregon will do against an SEC defense will be able to be seen in two games: 1) USC - they have the talent on the defenseive side just not the depth 2) Oregon State - they play every year and they know Oregon's offensive scheme probably better than anyone and there will be no intimidation factor.
I would've liked to see Utah play Oregon...I wanted to see how Oregon's OL handled Star Latulalei(sp?)

This is incorrect. In 2006, we had a nasty defense.
