Hippies are still there, but these days they tend to be among the "unhoused" instead of shitty apartments or run down houses in East Austin. You're right it's hard to find someone actually born in Austin these days...much less a multi-generational Austinite.
I know a bunch of them, both the older hippies and native Austinites, none of whom are homeless.

Quit posting about things you know nothing about, dumbass.

I was only there 3 years in the late 90's and get down there less and less these days, I was just responding to someone who implied there were no more hippies or regular Texans left down there. Sorry if I offended your hippie friends, and yes I'm aware some embraced Capitalism eventually and do quite well for themselves these days...but I know at least one (ex roommate with multiple degrees yet his lifestyle means he could no longer afford to live there) who isn't doing great these days. Not exactly homeless, but always on the brink.

Here's to a good clean game with no injuries.
Ironically, just got back in from work in Florida & wish the game was down there. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to BHG. But, have nothing but good memories from Gainesville. Grandfather helped grow the vet school. Uncle played there. & Lagway’s a kid we’ve been watching for a long time. Hope we get the win, but y’all are back sooner rather than later.

It's actually a mix of old school hippies, tech bros and normal Texans, but the result is a fun place to spend the weekend.

If you don't have fun on visit to a college town on a football weekend... You aren't doing it right...

Austin is a bit different than most in that you could go there 20 times for a game and never go to the same place twice.
