Even if we win this I'll admit he's not worth it.

Like, we all deep down realize this.

In general I think all athletes and coaches are over paid but I will still watch it so I’m part of the problem also. Winning cures all.

Hasn't this already happened with Ole Miss? Already seen this out of plenty of Rebs.

Is this a serious question? Not every coaching search gets their #1 choice. So the answer is ... cope.

Really? You have documented receipts for this?

Honestly though, if any school pays what is being floated around for this deal, to any coach, they should not only make the playoffs, but be in the NCG every year. Amount is insane. I would rather an up and comer.

The one =/= #1 choice

I can see you never hired anyone. If you had, you would know. You never hire anyone you think will be just good enough. Even #2 & #3 choices are "the one" you believe will do the job to the standard you expect.

I've hired enough people to know this is idiotic.

Yeah I've made offers to the best candidate and they decline due to comp disagreements. I moved on. Sometimes it didn't work out, sometimes it worked out better than expected.

You select the best available option at your price and their CV and comp requirements. Unless you have a crystal ball, it's always a gamble.

He got left on the tarmac at USC.

Kiffin took over right as USC got hammered by the NCAA and was hit with “lack of institutional control,” a two-year postseason ban, and 30 lost scholarships over three years, all tied to violations from the Pete Carroll era. Kiffin walked straight into one of the harshest sanction periods in college football history.

*but keep bring it up.

You don't think Lane's potential is worth more than most coaches making that now? I know his paycheck will mostly be based on potential but that is how things work.

The winner of the Kiffin lottery will be the teams that didn't get him. Because they wont have to pay the outrageous contract that Jimmy Sexton is going to demand.

It's funny you say this because I was just having a discussion with a friend about someone he hired a few days ago.

The guy is a bit of an introvert. My friend passed on the guy multiple times, and then one day the guys wife called wanting to ask about it. And that was an even bigger red flag to make him not want to hire him. But he was nice to her, told her some things he could do, etc. Expecting to never hear anything again.

The dude ended up doing the things he needed done faster than the people he had already hired instead. So he said frick it, and ended up hiring the guy just to give him a chance. It hasn't been very long, but thus far the guy is working out really well. Could end being one of his best techs. And he didn't want to hire him at all.
