Many would argue that the modern day SEC Goliath was born when- perhaps ironically- a height-challenged Supercoach came into the conference circa late 1999. And as things sit right now- it would be hard to argue with that.
BTW- did this guy have the balls to predict a David?

I think there are many stages to the SEC becoming a Goliath.
-the first expansion and championship game
-UF waking up finally and showing that the league was capable of improving even further from within
-the string of championships obviously
-the domination on the recruiting trail by the bigger schools and even most of the rest at some point during the run
-Rockstar coaches
-NFL pipeline from having great players developed and even 5.7 3 stars making NFL rosters
The only thing really missing which I will never understand is the lack of starting QBs in the NFL from the SEC. We should have the best QBs in the country but we don't always.

I think you really have to look at the downfall of Nebraska, the U, Michigan, Florida State, Notre Dame from national contenders to pretenders. Over the last twenty years, the Big 12 became a two team league(OU/tu), the Pac 12 became a 1 team league(USC) and the Big Ten became a 1 team league(OSU), while the SEC really expanded from the Big 4 in to the Big 6. Parity is good for all, at least for the ones that tried it.

FSU has not died yet. They are going to be in a big time bowl this year whether they deserve it or not.

I tend to agree, but think it was always the six. The question is now if it moves to 7 or 8

This. As much as the SEC controlled and still controls it's own destiny, the stars aligned to make it happen quicker and easier.

Agree, I expect Bama or LSU to skull drag the frick out of them too.

No, but over this stretch of SEC dominance, they have been a non-factor.

Alabama and Tennessee laid the foundation. The rest fell in line.

Alabama and Florida laid the foundation in the 90's with the NC's off of the SECCG performances.

Technically Texas A&M laid the foundation by knocking off K-State in the Big 12 Title game in 98...

Vanderbilt beat Alabama 117-0 or some shite like that back in the early 1900s.
That forced Bama into becoming a powerhouse.
fricking Vandy started it.
