Fans hated him so much they just kind of ignored that number. It always bugged me.

Doesn’t UGA also only one 1k receiver during those years? I’m not trying to troll, it’s just interesting Georgia has had a good amount of passing seasons yet the yards by receiver tend to spread out every year

I always liked Hartline. But he did get some unnecessary bullshite from a part of the fanbase. But I think that happens everywhere.

UGA has always had extensive use of TEs and RBs in the passing game along with the whole WR corps- It is just their MO

No one ever called him an elite QB, but acting like he wasn't any good is stupid. Such a weird take.

Lol the post I responded to literally said he’ll go down as one of the best QBs ever. He was not a bad QB at all — but acting like he was great is absurd. Bama was absolutely loaded at every position. And had historically incredible defenses keeping the offense on the field.

And my original point stands. Put Aaron Murray or any top tier SEC QB on those Bama teams and they do not lose a single game in 3 years. McCarron benefited from playing on some of the greatest teams of all time. You can’t replace the Donta Hightower’s, Mark Barron’s, and Trent Richardson’s and countless other all Americans Mccaron played with at Bama during those years and expect the same results — you could 1000% put a solid game manager out there at QB to replace AJ and those teams would’ve had the exact same win percentage.

I'd say so.

Lol. That throw is literally the only play he made in the SEC championship. And accounted for like 30% of his total passing yards that game. He was a solid game manager. Any decent QB could’ve won for Bama with those teams.

So your original point is just a theory/opinion that can not be proven?

Wow, great stuff.

Yep...the only QB that didn't get to pad his stats with OOC patsies. Glad you acknowledged that.

Please quote where I said that. In fact, I'm pretty sure I said just the opposite in this thread. Here, I'll quote myself:

quote:

Regardless of whether or not it makes McCarron look good or bad, he did what he was supposed to do with the tools he had at his disposal. He was a highly intelligent and competent QB who more often than not made the right reads with the football. When his number was called, he usually delivered. There isn't a single Alabama fan out there who would single him out for GOAT status, but we all remember him as one of the very best to put on a Crimson jersey at Alabama.

Everything in the bolded/italic part is true. He is not be the greatest QB in CFB history, but he's definitely one of the best to ever play the position at Alabama. And his resume that he put together (winningest QB in school history, back-to-back national champion, 1st Team All-American, Maxwell Award winner, and Heisman runner-up) is good enough to put him in the CFB Hall of Fame.

AJ was a better College and professional player than Aaron Murray.. but you'll never convince these yahoo's.

Had AJ ever gotten with the right team, I believe he would have had a successful NFL career. The coach for the Texans once said he could start for half the teams in the league.

AJ has made over $15 million as a professional QB. How much did Murray get paid in the NFL? I believe AJ had his shot as a starter in Buffalo right before Josh Allen was drafted...but an injury in the preseason that year probably doomed him to career backup...which is the best gig in the game to me.

AJ has 3 NC rings...2 as a starter. Those are the only stats that even matter.
