I was watching the LSU game on ESPN3, and this came up during one of the trivia breaks.
Am I reading this wrong?

Last year before the NCG, they said 9. I suppose it's 10 now.

They say we have 14, but then they say we have 9 that are poll titles. We have 5 that are disputable, but as long as we recognize them we have them.

If they are only counting AP & Coaches poll titles, it's 9. And that's the CFB record. If they are counting everything, the Ivies are way ahead.

The Ivy League schools claim NCs from the days of football where the Ivy League schools were the only schools which even played the game.

pivey14 got it right.
It says NCAA championships. FBS does not have a NCAA championship. That's why it's called Football BOWL Series.

Gotcha. I wasn't trying to start anything, it just caught my eye and I hadn't ever noticed what ESPN's opinion was.

No biggie. Depending on who you ask, when you ask and the context, this is an almost constantly-moving goalpoast.

There was a good article about this last year where the broke down the claims versus who really wont eh MNC that year. It might have been Mandel that wrote the article. Do a little searching - you might be able to still find it.

Yeah, teams like Princeton got almost all their championships before 1910 or some stupid shite like that. There were only like 6 teams playing football back then and princeton literally won it every year for a long time.

IF UA and ND win out and meet in BCS CG, the discussion will be national and more serious since there was much made of the Tide surpassing ND in 2011.

Bleacher
Meh, claim what they want. Hell, claim going undefeated in 2011

The correc answer is 9.
As a 'Bama fan, I claim nine myself...
...but to link Bleacher Report as your definitive answer?
ETA: Article goes personal against Alabama fans within the first couple paragraphs.

After all, a growing number of the Tide's newfound bandwagon fan base isn't even educated past the high school level, while much less of them have actually received a degree from the Tuscaloosa-based university.
What a pro.

I think they recognize 9, but another 4 look very familiar and there's 1 they have never seen before.

I've seen that article, but I consider that website to be a bunch of fans writing shite about other teams.
