No he is only at Arky State until Chizik is pushed out...he has already been promised the HC job at Auburn...didn't you hear?

Bama fans like having Petrino at Arkansas. It takes attention away from what a dip ssh their Saban is.

He can't go to an SEC job, because of the non-compete clause that HE PROPOSED. He could have had the Florida job last year if he had wanted it and probably the Michigan job as well. And as was rumored, the USC job the year before. At that time his buyout was low and the non-compete clause only applied to the SEC west. He proposed the massive buyout and the complete SEC non-compete clause to squelch some of those rumors that came with every big job.
So, I just don't see him leaving unless things turn bad between Petrino and the fans at Arkansas.

I may be called crazy here by my fellow AU fans for actually taking up for Saban, but your post literally drips with stupid.
Saban has proven himself to be one of, if not the, top coach in the nation. As an Auburn fan I want my Tigers to beat his brains out every November. But as a college football fan, youth football coach and lifelong student of the game of football I can only admire what the man has accomplished. Do I think he is the second coming of the Bear? Do I think he's perfect? No, he does have his flaws and has made mistakes on a number of occasions that cost his team wins. He is only human. But he is a damn fine HC.

You can count out a lot of college programs too

Petrino has a non-compete for SEC schools, it used to be just West schools but after Florida opened up and his name was rumored they added East schools as well. Not sure how interested UF was but it was open before the huge buyout was agreed to, at the time I was worried he may leave.
He likes coaching in the SEC, many high profile jobs have come open since he got here (Mich, Ohio St, USC, ND, Miami, FSU, etc) and so far he hasnt so much as entertained the idea
Texas does worry me, they can afford a huge buyout and he would be dominating there. I hope Mack stays around a long time.

What's funny is that even if he stays for 12 more years and decides to retire or go onto something else, the media are still going to exclaim "Petrino is a job-hopper! Look at him leaving yet another school!"
So silly.
So silly.

Not exactly the best situation to jump into with most of these programs lately (i.e. sanctions).
Any of those programs without sanctions is a very tough gig to turn down.

Florida didn't have sanctions and he said thanks but no thanks to them last season.

Mich, ND and FSU didnt have sanctions

Knowing what his contract looks like, I think he's there for the duration.

Not trying to contradict you or even start an argument, but did any of these school offer him anything or have show any interest in him? I ask this because I was unaware if they did.

At this point I think there are only two things, barring health or some sort of scandal, that would make Petrino anytime soon...
2. Fans turning on him.
I think this is a spot on. Arkansas fans are beginning to become accustomed to a greater amount of success than they've experienced in quite some time and, as with most fan bases, it goes to their heads pretty quick. So with a couple of bad seasons in a row, it will be interesting to see how the fans react.
I say this because you see this similar reaction at any school with great success. The seat becomes hot very quickly (see LSU, 'Bama, Florida, etc.)and it takes a coach really wanting to remain at the school to not give a big

It was all over the Rant last year at this time. Florida fans reported Petrino was the #1 target when Urbs stepped down.

True, but perhaps he could see the writing on the wall better in terms of roster depth. Plus, expectations are through the roof right now and it's like walking into the Lion's Den.

On that note, these programs represent the same thing: sky-high expectations. FSU already had their coach in waiting, so I don't really know how much you can factor their program in here. Plus, did Michigan or ND come after Petrino?
Anyhow, I don't think Petrino is dumb enough to walk into that fire, but if the situation were right, I can say it would be tough for most coaches to shy away from.

i dont know if they contacted him, i'm just going off what has been open since he took this job.
fact is, he likes living in Fayetteville, likes having an entire state behind him (sorry Gus), likes playing in the SEC and likes that he gets what he wants in regards to facilities.
that doesnt mean he wont bolt but with those factors and his buyout and non-compete its likely he'll be at Ark a while.

I tend to agree with you. With the current state of affairs at many other "big" schools, he is far better off at Arkansas. Plus, like you said, he has supreme facilities, the SEC as a recruiting pitch, and a couple of great seasons to sit on. I'd be surprised if he left within the next 5 years.
Question: Does Petrino have a "dream" job or anything like that? I ask because, well, I have no idea (clearly).
