Your comparison between Richt and coaches like Bobby Bowden, Mack Brown, and Tom Osborne is like the dumbest comparison I have ever seen.
Florida State might have had the worst program in college football before Bobby Bowden showed up. Mack Brown spent the early part of his career at schools that nobody would expect to win national championships. He made North Carolina football competitive, and their football program has turned into dog shite since he left. I am pretty sure Tom Osborne never went a decade without winning at least one conference championship
None of the coaches listed had the displeasure of coaching in the modern day climate that is the ultra competitive SEC either. So, you may be right. There isn't a comparison, they had easier roads to their championships.

Because UGA fans accept mediocrity. 9~10 wins a season and Richt's job is safe
You would give ole Butch your best blowie if he promised you 9 wins every year

I just think college football fans should sit back and enjoy the ride more. What good is the destination if the journey was never any fun.
I was already inclined to agree with your post but seeing that Auburnphan disagrees with you only proves the inherent wisdom of what you said
That was good post.
It always kills me how some of ours let their disappointments over the length of the journey to the top to rob them of their enjoyment of the ride. Mizzou has some inherent disadvantages based on location and volume of in-state talent. Getting to the ultimate and penultimate levels may never happen, so why not enjoy the achievements and mileposts while they strive to get there?

In addition to what my Dawg brother said on page one, I'd like to add, and hearkens to the statement about age/experience:
I went to UGA during the Donnan years.
Ray Goff was the coach when I was in high school.
UGA was a perennial 8 win team and was 50/50 in bowls. Nobody ever talked about UGA on TV in the context of winning the conference, much less winning the NC.
Between GT, AUB, and UF, if UGA could beat just 1 of those teams in the season, then we felt OK. Forget about beating Jamal Lewis and Peyton Manning.
Along comes Richt- hot shite OC for Bowden at FSU, never had a problem whipping Florida's arse.
In his first 4 years he brought us 2 SEC championships.
In the following ten years, leading up to now, he's had us in the SECCG two more times. He's owning GT, UF (Minus UM), and AUB. And Tenn, but everyone is owning Tenn lately.
There have been a couple of bedshitting games, but what he has done for us, and will presumably keep doing for us, is keeping us on the national stage, keeping us in a position to be knocking on the door of an NC, and hope it opens one day. And as a secondary bonus, he's been able to run a program that is respected throughout the country by all but Auburn and Tech fans. They think Richt is a phony, but they are in the minority.
I could go on, but I have to run.

Mark Richt has a winning record against every SEC team except for Florida.
Mark Richt has nine 10 win seasons.
Mark Richt recruits great players and the recruiting trend is very positive.

Mark Richt beat Auburn 4 years in a row between 2006-2009. He is exactly .500 against Auburn during his other 10 years. This along with never even playing for a national championship and not winning a conference championship in the last decade obviously makes him a GOAT coach

Why the hell are you trying to compare Tom Osborne -22 years to Mark Richt??????
Osborne had several more conference championships during the same time frame that Mark Richt has been the head coach at Georgia.
He also lead Nebraska to national championship games before winning it.

Football is business. The #1 goal of business is to make money. UGA is making a lot of money. As long as the goal is being achieved, there is no reason to change things. Fans want to win championships; people running businesses want to make money.

I like Richt but are you saying that Georgia would lose money if they replaced him.

Serious answer: The coaching pool in college football is very shallow currently. Georgia can easily do much worse. See Florida and Tennessee and USC. I really don't think there's a clear-cut upgrade available right now. Georgia might as well stick with what they have until an elite coach becomes available.

Does anyone here think Mark Richt is doing something wrong?
What would an imaginary elite coach do different at UGA than what Richt is doing right now?

Getting curb stomped by the worst Florida team I've ever seen should have been enough to cost Mark his job,

Lol remember when we spotted yall a qb and then still beat you?

I think the big problem at UGA has been the administration. There was so much controversy with Evans, UGA could not fire someone with a reputation of Richt. Their image was stained, so they did not want to face the wrath of the national press for firing Richt. It is now to the point that he will be forced to "retire", if he does make the playoff in the next two years. If another SEC Team wins the NC in the time period, the pressure will be increased.

That if you put a square peg on a lathe and file the corners off it will then fit in a round hole....
