Bama fans have to be honest here. If the SEC was even an average league this year, we would be in the bottom half. Our offense is stagnant and we have no low post presence. Grant yet to get a decent big man in four years.
Hell we wish he could develop a guy like Tony Mitchell

I happen to really like Grant. He has caught some tough breaks, but I enjoy the style of basketball he teaches and I believe if he gets the numbers and gets a healthy team, his Alabama teams will be hell to deal with.

How many years does he get? He took us to the NCAA tournament last year. And I don't think done Perle understand exactly how far Gottfried had run this program into the dirt his last few seasons. Grant is doing just fine thus far. Yea, we need help on offense, but his teams are very good defensively and always play hard and fight like hell. We're also young, Steele is our only senior and we're starting three sophomores.

Michigan is playing a lot of their game with 4 freshmen. All of our underclassman saw major PT last year.

Hired the wrong vcu coach should have hired Shaka.

Is anybody comparing us to Michigan? When exactly has our program ever been a consistent top ten program? If those are the expectations then Grant isn't the guy, but nobody is.
And Grant got us to the tournament last year with all those freshmen playing.

my point was that you can be successful with underclassman. At least our young bucks so plenty of PT last year and we are young in age but not young in experience

Probably not. I'm not as negative as some of our fans but some of the negativity is deserved.
He's not getting fired this year and we'll probably be pretty good next year (by SEC standards) so I think he'll be our guy for a while.
The fact that we're 6-2 in the league is just hilarious. How shitty are most of you? Really shitty.

You need to be honest with yourself, who do you think we can hire that's better?
Bama fans also need to realize that this Bball program has ALWAYS thrived on in-state talent which has been extremely thin outside of the 2011 class in Grant's tenure. As far as recruiting goes he just finished year 3 with last year's class, so he hasn't found a decent big man in 3 years. In those 3 years the state of Alabama has yet to produce one high-major quality post player. Grant may have not done too great with the 2012 class, but Grant has recruited better out-of-state than any coach I can remember. We have been and currently are high on a lot of top guys' lists from as far west as Texas too as far north as New Jersey and New York. It is only a matter of time before we start landing a few of them, and with the 2014 in-state class looking pretty solid we might be back on track as far as in-state talent goes as well. The main problem I have with him recruiting wise is his roster mismanagement with signing so many guards in 2011 that we were in need of 2 posts with only 1 guaranteed open scholarship in the 2012 class.
As for the Tony Mitchell comment, he got massively better through his career here, even though he was a fricking head case with a pre-madonna syndrome. So I fail to see your point with mentioning him.

Nice avatar. Bruce is a great coach that can do big things.
His first year at Tennessee, he took over a dumpster fire and had us as a 2 seed in the tournament in year one with Dane frickin Bradshaw as our second best player. Never missed the tournament with him. 3 sweet 16 and an elite 8 in 6 years. Hope bama doesn't get him.

I agree with a lot of that. His big man recruiting has been disastrous though.
It's strange, he seemed to love Chris Hines which would make you think he might go after a similar type player, whether in JUCO or not.
Of the big men he's signed none have been skilled and none have been athletic. You would think we'd at least sign one guy who fits one of those bills.
This would be a really good team if we still had Jamychal (as much as we, myself included, bitched about him). We finally have a talented perimeter, just no big man (although Gueye and Jacobs have made some strides).

not comparing Bama to UM..comparing the fact that underclassman can make a different. Their freshmen are contributing. our only freshmen who plays sucks.

Just mentioning he was a polarizing player, but Grant has yet to develop a player of his caliber. Releford has gotten slightly better, but it is up and down with him as a pg.
Of course we all know moving forward it will be about how Lacey continues to develop and whether or not he finds a serviceable big man.

All of our sophomores who played as freshmen last year got us to the tournament, so what's your point? You keep saying freshmen can have success, and ours did with Grant.

Grant walked into a shite storm. I think he is still the right guy. Just has had some unfortunate breaks.
First year, he had to implement his coaching philosophy. Not a ton of talent.
Second year, no offensive talent + won the west. NIT Runner Up
Third year, unfortunate turn of events. Had the talent. Immature fricks ruined the team. Still made it to 2nd round of NCAA tourney.
This year, lack of big men doomed the tide.
So honestly, the only thing he has done wrong is recruiting/develop big men. Doesn't help that injuries have taken place this year, as well. I think Nick Jacobs would be much better if 100%

Good coach, just not good enough to make Bama relevant. There's some touted players on the team, but they're not getting it done. His teams have had some poor intangibles.

Last year the post play was awesome with Green. The 3pt shooting was horrible. Now the perimeter players are good and Bama has the worst big men in the SEC. The team is just a decent big man away from being a top 25 team with sweet 16 aspirations.

Listen brah Bama fans know the basketball team's not winning a National Championship anytime soon.
You're asking the wrong question here. The question that you should be asking is do Bama fans care if Grant ever wins a National Championship?
Answer: WHO CARES!
