How do we really know how good teams are this year?

without many OOC games played?

Here are the OOC games that would have happened had it not been for COVID:

Alabama vs. USC
Arkansas at Notre Dame
Auburn vs. North Carolina
Georgia vs. Virginia
Florida vs. Florida State
Kentucky at Louisville
LSU vs. Texas
Ole Miss vs. Baylor
Miss St. at NC State
Missouri at BYU
S. Carolina vs. Coastal Carolina
Tennessee at Oklahoma
Texas A&M vs. Colorado
Vanderbilt at Kansas State

With the way things currently stand, 9 of those 14 would-be opponents find themselves either ranked in the Top 25 or just outside of it in the Receiving Votes.

#2 Notre Dame
#8 BYU
#13 Oklahoma
#14 Coastal Carolina
#17 USC
#26 N. Carolina
#28 Texas
#30 Colorado
#31 NC State

What if SC had beaten Coastal Carolina and Missouri had beaten BYU.... neither outcome seems all that far-fetched... and yet had it happened, neither of those schools that are in the spotlight this weekend would likely be ranked.

I think Auburn and Missouri are both legit Top 25 teams. I think Arkansas and Ole Miss are probably legit Top 30-35 teams.... and had the SEC had the chance to showcase itself against other leagues this year, wins over those 4 SEC teams (all currently NOT in the Top 25 or even really clsoe to it) would be looking a whole lot better for Bama, UF, A&M, and UGA.

The beef with Georgia is that we have no quality wins. But had Auburn soundly defeated North Carolina in Week 2 and had Arkansas hung with Notre Dame late into the game, etc., those wins for UGA might look a whole lot different.

I'm just saying that the COVID scheduling favors the midmajors. I highly doubt that Cincy, BYU, Marshall, Coastal Carolina, Louisiana-Lafayette, Liberty, etc. would all be ranked at the same time had it not been for COVID.

The SEC beats up on one another and everyone says, "The SEC is down this year because we have a bunch of 6-4 or 5-5 teams. But meanwhile the mid-majors all have teams going 9-1 or 10-0 and everyone says, "Look how many great teams are coming out of these smaller leagues!"

What if... a team won 11 SEC games in a season, and won two more in the CFP to be crowned Champions... and MIGHT have another SEC team in the CFP...

I’d be willing to say that would be..

The greatest team and season ever.

We don't really have any clue who is better than who in between conferences.

On the flip side, we have a much better idea of who is better than who within conferences (at least within our conference).

I have no idea how good Ohio State is. They always look like worldbeaters until they get blown out by Iowa or Purdue.

Ask them and they'll tell you. shite... you don't have to ask some and they'll tell you anyway.
