Tennessee's 2016 football season was actually pretty miraculous. They lost the turnover battle over the course of the season, gave up 450yds of offense per game, and still went 9-4.
That makes me have even more respect for Dobbs.

I do not sense any hostility in my previous post but I can see how someone of your intellect could easily get confused.

Also, I wish you would learn to post images. You've been trying to show me for three days so it better be a doozy because my anticipation is at an all time high iwabh

Just goes to show that money ($$$) alone does not guarantee success on the gridiron.

I am a State guy so looking at UT from the outside, something is missing there and has been for 10 years. May be the way they did Fulmer is still biting them in the a**.
There is no intimidation factor from UT anymore like what existed in the 90's until the mid 2000's. When you lose the confidence factor it is hard to get it back.
Bama has it, LSU had it but there's has some cracks in it now, Auburn is similar in that other teams have the confidence to beat them now.
UGA has lost their's and is trying to regain it as well.
It is an Intangible that is hard to quantify but is nonetheless a part of and a necessary ingredient to a school's success on the football field.

Bottom line, Vandy is not scared of the Vols anymore. That is not good news for BJ's long term survival at UT.

Butch is meh, but cluster injuries is the #1 reason.

UT was basically the walking dead on defense towards the end of the season.

Nope, don't wanna hear about injuries as an excuse. We were missing 8 defensive starters against LSU and our starting QB for the majority of the year was a guy named Applesauce who couldn't keep his job at Purdue.

Excluding Bama, the West is 25-11 against the East since 2014.

We're always gonna be hamstrung having both UK and Vandy in football (and the poop swastikas now too). Yet another reason Vandy should swap with Auburn.

They had to continue the newly minted tradition of having a coach on payroll who had given up 40 points to Vandy. Dooley was just coming off the books, so Butch was doomed.

Also, the UT fans who are saying things like "no excuse to lose to Vandy" are amusing me. They haven't had a class graduate with a winning record over Vandy since 2012.

Why stop at 2012?

75-31-5.

Long way to go, little brother.

Actually Cobb Dawg, I was taking up for you and your broken images. I feel it is important to help the elderly learn how to use computers.

The Tennessee team that beat ACC runner up Virginia Tech, Florida, and Georgia in the first half of the season was a completely different team than the one that lost to Vanderbilt in November.

There's never an excuse to lose to Vandy, but UT was the #1 most injured team in CFB last season and it showed up in the back half of the schedule.

4th string Defensive Tackles (McKenzie, Tuttle, and O'Brien all out. Walk on Paul Bain forced to play and undersized Defensive ends forced to slide inside because there were no more bodies) No linebackers (Jalen-Reeves Maybin and Quarte Sapp both out. Darrin Kirkland was playing 50% after coming back from a high ankle sprain)

Vanderbilt also played out of their mind in the 2nd half and put together a nice finish to the game.

Who was responsible to fill the vacant role of strength and conditioning coach when Dave Lawson left? That role was given to a GA or some such right? Pretty sad from April 2016 - Jan 2017 UT didn't have a strength and conditioning coach on staff. That may have had a lot to do with those injuries.

No need to stop there. It just was the last class to graduate with a winning record over Vandy. No one is going to argue UT isn't the vastly superior program historically, so congrats? But I doubt most recruits care too much about something more than 5 years. To put it into perspective for recruits, they were in middle school the last time UT could claim dominance over Vandy. It's sad that you have to go reaching back into the past to feel better about the closing gap in the rivalry.

Recruiting results and rankings say otherwise.

That's about their overall records against the rest of the teams though, not the ebb and flow of the specific Vandy-UT rivalry.

Who is Tennessee going to get at this point? I don't think they have the 6 or 7 million dollars a year it would take to land a flashy big name hire.

That's not a backpedal. It's pointing out that if Vandy was closing the gap in results with everyone else as much as they have with UT then our recruiting results would be much closer. Getting better, much better, results against one team will not overcome a bad history. Recruits, many of which are more intelligent than your average Ranter, can understand both concepts that UT no longer "owns" Vandy AND that UT is still currently more successful.

ETA: It should also be noted that I never said Vandy has surpassed UT in the rivalry or anything remotely close to that. I said that Vandy is closing the gap. Vandy's recruiting rankings are also going up, so the gap is closing there even if the recruiting gap is still massive while the on-field gap appears to be much smaller.

Mediocrity is acceptable at Tennessee. 8-4 and Butch will be back next year. The east should have been owned by Tennessee the last couple of years and this year as well but 8-4 or 9-3 will be acceptable. If your coach can't win the east and you know for a fact that he never will then why the frick would you keep him? Only thing I can come up with is that hardware isn't important to our Tennessee brothers right now and I am ok with it. When he goes 8-4 and beats a shitty Nebraska team in a meaningless bowl game go ahead and extend his arse. We are all rooting for him.
