Can you really say that Auburn that has a national brand? It's more like a sub-regional brand.

The Sandusky trial starting Monday divides attention helping Auburn avoid a full blown media circus.

Engineering school and Architecture school has put AU on more than a national map. It is very common to run into AU engineers in Cali, NYC, Chicago, Texas and so on. A lot of Auburn grads graduate and move out of the south east, more so than people think.

Its not like there is a serial killer roaming around town killing co-eds and football players. This could have happened several times in Tuscaloosa and im honestly quite surprised that it hasn't. Local thug p.o.s. are always intruding on college campuses attempting to make themselves present to the female population. It doesn't hurt Auburn at all because they are not responsible. Unfortunately it is another terrible, negative incident that further ingrains the negative stereotype of the young black male.

Well said. Of course there will be the fringe(Tidefans, bamamag) who disputes this, but for the most part most dont believe there is any connection besides wrong place wrong time. There will be some negetive recruitment as well, but hopefully most will see through the BS

No, not at all. If it could happen anywhere why would it hurt AU's image?

Any damage in so far as recruiting I could only see would be suburban kids (Ethan Pocic,Alex Anzalone types) from the whiter north being swayed.

ETA I understand Auburn is not recruiting Pocic or Anzalone I was just using examples of SEC caliber kids from places not accustom to gun play

I really think that when the O.P. said image/brand that he/she was referring to the image/brand of the football team.

The only way this will hurt the program is in recruiting. The only way this could potentially hurt recruiting is if the young man remains at large for an extended period of time. If this were to happen I could potentially see some mothers and grandmothers not feeling at ease with their son or grandson being in Auburn, but that is totally contingent on how long this issue stays in the media. The longer he is at large the longer it runs. There will also be some negative recruiting tactics employed by some teams that will harp on this issue. I pray to god our staff doesn't stoop that low. Even though the April 27 tornado was used as a tool against us by a few teams no one should use those types of issues to land players.

Frankly though, it will blow over in a few weeks if he is captured. We are a society that moves on rather quickly and tend to forget painful experiences. Auburn will be just fine on this issue.

I'm not really concerned with how this tragedy will affect recruiting. Some things are bigger than football.

Those moms and grandmas are idiots.

hell, i guarantee there is some lowlife dad out there who saw Eric Macks injury as an opportunity for his son to get playing time.
