If we assume OSU beats OU, then OSU will have a better case to be in the championship game based on the objective measures.
Bama will have the better loss, and the larger margin of victory. Everything else that can actually be quantified points to OSU on paper.
Bama is probably better, and they certainly look better when you see them on the field, but OSU will have a better resume top to bottom.
equal premier win, better secondary wins, conference champion, better venue of loss, more victories over ranked teams, more victories over winning teams.

Obvious anomaly.

I think the original intent of the BCS was the make sure the two best teams played each other BECAUSE there were too many cases of teams with identical records who didn't play each other. Some seasons it helps make sense of who is best, and others it doesn't. This year, LSU already beat Bama so there really isn't a need for a BCS title game...LSU is consensus #1 and will stay that way as long as they win the SEC. If any bowl game was ever an "exhibition" game as some pointed out in other threads, it would be an LSU Bama rematch.

Because Bama lost at HOME to LSU already. They didn't win their conference or division. A rematch means that the regular season game was meaningless. If you want to play for the MNC then win your conference.

Yes. The Big 12 AS A CONFERENCE is better than the SEC this season.
Again, we aren't saying Bama isn't the second best team in the country. We are just stating what everyone else outside of Louisiana and Alabama is seeing.

So the SEC Championship should be canceled if the West Champ and East Champ have already played? Even if National Championship implications are on the line pending the outcome of that game?

Take your SEC glasses off for a second and realize that the SEC isn't the same SEC of the last 6-7 years.

Basically, everyone is saying a rematch is meaningless. So my question is... if the same scenario involves the SEC Champ Game should the game just be canceled and the winner of the reg season matchup automatically advance to the Sugar Bowl or National Championship?

Are you kidding me?
I will be the first to admit that the SEC is down this year, but have you honestly watched Big 12 teams play?

In 2007 LSU jumped because the SEC was seen as the premiere conference and LSU was the champion of that conference. They jumped from 7-2 only 1 week off of a loss that wasn't that much better than a loss at Iowa State is this year. If anything that works AGAINST Bama's case.
4 years ago a team made a huge jump on championship weekend because of a desire to have conference champions in the game.
5 years ago a team made a jump on championship weekend after winning its conference to jump an idle team to avoid a rematch.
This stuff isn't ancient history, and should at the very least be making Bama sweat.
How can you really call a Bama-LSU rematch a "national" championship when between the two teams they've played a total of 3 other BCS conference teams. Its kinda funny that by avoiding the rematch in 06 the voters set up that game that kick started the SEC dominance that they're largely using to justify a rematch this time.

Yes. You are letting your homerism get in the way here, IMO.

that is apples to oranges though. the participants for the SECCG aren't placed there by votes and computers; they earn it on the field.
my personal opinion is that it doesnt matter who plays LSU on jan 9, they are walking into a buzz saw and will be beaten soundly.

In theory? Absolutely. Just like if LSU had lost to Ole Miss, LSU would still be SEC West division champ because they beat Alabama head to head even though they had identical records.
In practice, once they create the game, there are too many $$$ staring at the conference not to play the game, even if it means two teams playing that have already played (see LSU Georgia 2003).
Same thing with BCS..in some years there is a clear winner and no need for a title game...like this year if LSU wins SECCG. But again, too much $$$ so they'll play a game anyway.
System is very flawed obviously and the biggest injustice since it's inception by FAR was leaving undefeated Auburn out of the title game in 2004. IMO another huge injustice would be giving a team an opportunity to go 1-1 against a team and claim a national title.

Well in this scenario both teams would have won their divisions and earned a right to play in that game.
In the BCS the only way to earn a berth is to win your games after that your fate lies in the hands of voters comparing schedules. And OSU has a legit argument based on their wins this year.

Hence the OP starting this thread. He's sweating bullets awaiting the outcome of OU-OSU.
